Ameritowne O scale?
« on: 13 August 2016, 12:27:53 AM »
Has anyone bought Ameritowne, O scale stuff for use with 28mm models?
http://www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?str_s=ameritowne+o+scale&submit=GO&cat_s=UGD

Postage will probably be prohibitive but just wondering how these things scale up. I'm thinking about it's use with 28mm supers.

The footprint is good but the height of windows and doors is telling. I cut down the doors and added or expanded transoms above the doors and by and large left the windows alone.

The big issue was the buildings stood a bit taller than my other stuff, it worked for some pieces not for others, but as I got them 2nd hand and cheap I didn't complain.

Thanks. Any pictures please?

They seem pretty cheap anyway and as I don't have any other buildings like this I wouldn't have the issue of being out of scale with others. :)

Thanks again.

Sadly no pics, I rarely take pics of anything.

Here is an O scale cornerstone building that is fairly comparable. The figs are Brigade Games.

Most of my trailer park is O-scale rail road stuff:

I'm not sure how well city buildings scale.

That actually scales up perfectly, especially considering the bases those minis are on. I mean; doors and windows in this type/era of buildings were high anyway, as were the ceilings and compared to the minis, the height is not only reasonable, but I'd even call it realistic.

No doubt; I'd use that building without a second thought and I'll be bookmarking the source too, for when I'll be in need of some late 19th, early 20th century buildings... ;)

It has been my observation that earlier O-stuff like plasticville is often a smidge smaller (and closer to 28mm) than the more current and more accurately scaled buildings.  Still, they all look great.  We've used them at various points.

Here's a "Morrison's Doors" building.  I think it's a prepainted building made by Woodland Scenics and sold at Menards.

Here's the door. The Pig Iron fig is a but hunched, but you get the idea.

For those in the states, Menards is an excellent source of affordable 0-Gauge stuff and they just started HO as well.

Might even be worth shipping costs for those overseas.

So, does anyone make a 28mm(ish) Bubbles figure?  How about the rest of the crew?

Seems like Ricky and Julian would be easy conversions from some modern civvies somewhere, the main difficulty being in sculpting Ricky's hair. Mr. Lahey and Randy might be a bit more difficult...

I don't think I'd want to see that in ANY scale!
