This isn't quite what I had in mind when I started this thread (I wanted a human head rising more or less vertically from the body, not a face sticking out of the front), but considering it's the result of working with stuff I already had in the bits box and didn't have to spend any money I'm mostly pleased with it:

I might leave the tail as it is or give him some sort of stinger, haven't decided yet. Also I'm undecided as to whether or not to remove his fangs. I'll think on that.

That's pretty awesome to be honest, not totally like the pictures you posted but very much akin to other medieval pictures I've seen.

I would change the tail as it will allow a colour change from the main body; I quite like the fangs though.

That's rather nice and works quite well. IMHO, It does look a bit front-heavy now, though, so I would second the scorpion tail option to visually balance out the figure and maybe continue the overall curve of the spine.

That's a great conversion! The pose is a little more like this fellow:

Rapier miniatures make this manticore: https://rapierminiatures.com/product/manticore/

I bought it for much the same reason as you, i.e. it's closer to a goofy medieval manticore.

The casting wasn't brilliant if I'm honest.. but easier than attempting to sculpt one  lol

I agree it needs a more impressive tail to balance it out, and have started work on a scorpion-style one. Only problem is that I'm awful at sculpting. :)

Though looking at that pic Hobgoblin posted I think I like that spiky tail better, I might go with something a bit more like that.

Probably a bit late to the game, but I think the new Serpopard miniature from North Star has something of the right look.

Might still need a new face and tail, but it has that long neck from the illustrations.

Yeah, that one is pretty nice, and certainly has potential.

Maybe an entire brood (pride?) is called for?

Well I've finished him...

(Oh dear, the face came out a bit blurry on that one, sorry about that, I've put everything away now so it will just have to do.)

Halfway through doing this fellow, I remembered I had some other African animals I could mutilate, and decided to have another go. I think this was originally a cheetah, and I really felt he needed a Frostgrave barbarian head grafting on to him:

He looks decidedly less ferocious than the first one, but he is much nearer to what I had in mind when I started this whole business. If we ever need one for our game I'm not sure which I will use. Kinda like them both in different ways.

They are both awesome.

I'd be tempted to make the cheetah based one a party member, a wise old mythical creature providing aid and guidance.

Hope you kitbash further stuff as I love seeing things like this in a world of 3D printing.

Now that's a cracking manticore there, appropriately unsettling 😂
