this came up on one of the threads about John Carter (I think... I only found it trawling through my browser history). It provides some great maps from the 1870s onwards - precisely when Carter is supposed to have gotten there... and at the point that I figure alternative history could divide to give us Space-Russians. So, Project Red Planet is go...
