Wallenstein's Lifeguard by Warlord
« on: 21 September 2012, 09:19:29 PM »
Of particular interest to TYW aficionados as no one else does these. They're metals by the way, not plastics :

Very nice looking figures, though the horses are nothing to write home about (they look suspiciously like the Warlord plastic mounts) and the pistol holsters are positioned way too low on the horse harness (dunno if they're separate items or cast on). Still, I'll be getting these warts and all as the unit is too pretty to pass. In case you're wondering what the fuss is all about, here's what they look like in colour :

The folks at Warlord are currently promising more Pike and Shotte releases in the forthcoming weeks : wonder whether Wallenstein's Lifeguard arquebusiers are among them.

I was thinking of getting these to use as spanish lancers for a bit earlier. Head swaps maybe?

I suspect the horses may be the usual plastic effort, which is a great shame if so. I noticed the holster too, in fact if I'm not mistaken the pistol looks to be facing the wrong way as well! Love the period and it's nice to see Warlord supporting it!

Thanks for posting the uniform pictures.....

You're welcome  :)

The Wilke plates above were obviously what the Warlord sculptor used for reference material, so it made sense to bung them in my post along with the pics of the figures.

Beautful.  Possibly also useful for very late 16th century lancers.

They'll pass as late C16th lancers, yes. All the more so as there has been some debate as to how accurate Wilke's plate is : some have suggested the lifeguard lancer company never wore cuirassier armour and was actually a much lighter unit, the full armour being an invention of C19th amateur historians upon whose work Wilke based his plate. The Wilke figures have been occasionally dismissed as anachronictic and inspired by late C16th engraving of lancers. Which may or may not be the case : there is no solid evidence one way or the other, so the Warlord figures are as valid a depiction of Wallenstein's lancers as any.

Not to mention the fact they wear a pretty costume and look way cool on the table  :D

Great to see these.  Shame they appear to have the plastic horses and I'm amazed they put the holsters on the wrong way round!

I suspect the holsters are from the horse kit and they simply duplicated the piece so it is right on only one side of the horse.

I'll be getting these for myself and will do a six-man unit (that's 120 troopers at my preferred 1:20 scale, which is about correct historically), but I'll probably scrap the horses and replace them with either TAG or Perry ECW mounts, depending on which are the better fit for the riders.
