World War I skirmish rules
« on: 29 March 2013, 10:09:00 AM »
Hello,

every now and then I get itchy about jumping in WWI, but I can't find any appropriate rules. I don't like the rules where one miniature represents 10 or more, and I don't seem to be able to find anyone interested in 15mm WW1, so I figured I'd ask around if anyone knows any good skirmish rules for WW1. I am thinking of European fronts and as the offensives were large scale, I guess it would be nice to play some trench raiding.

So...anyone knows about a ruleset that might fill my expectations? :D

The Two Fat Lardies set Through the Mud and Blood is very good.

1 model = 1 man and it normally handles games from with a  platoon  to a weak company a side. It really brings out the late war small unit tactics with specialist rifle grenade, bomber, trench clearing and LMG squads.

They do a scenario book on the western front and the first few scenarios are directly taken from training manuals of the periods. There are also additional materials in the summer/winter specials they publish, including special rules for trench raiding

You can find battle reports and more ideas on trench raiding games in on Sidney Roundwood's excellent blog "roundwoods world".

I used to play kaiser bosch back in the day, old set of rules but ideal for small games. Arc of fire is a nice skirmish set too

Chris Peer's Contemptible Little Armies is a great WW I skirmish rules set that can be played in any scale. I have played it lots in 28mm and its very easy, fast, and bloody

The Lardies also support the rules through the twice a year specials.
