Some old miniatures are a joy to paint.

Some are not.

Some others manage to end up accidentally looking like Rick James sister in space.

In an effort to redeem myself slightly, here is a photo of all of my currently painted Rogue Trader Adventurers.  Pretend that you dont notice that it's out of focus  :'(

More info on the convoluted process can be seen here here, for any masochists interested.

Axiom is up next.  We can then forget all about this chapter on the CYOA project ;)

After cheetor's excellent bronzed armour, I've gone for a functional and less vibrant colour scheme with my Pilot:

The poor fellow is rather stressed about something - instructions being barked down the comm feed, excessive background noise, or perhaps the latest teen pop song in his cans.

You can of course read more about him here.

Curis will take the next figure :)

And take the next figure I shall.

“1988 Rogue Trader Citadel miniature?  That belongs in a museum.”

You might wonder what Indy is doing in the forty-first millennium, but seems Games Workshop had a serious thing for the archeologist producing not one but THREE homages to the character.

Indiana Jones and the Great Crusade.

More photos and words over at Ninjabread.

Lovely work, chaps.
Great to see these old classics getting the paintjobs they deserve.

Axiom: That Pilot was part of my Inquisitorial Retinue years ago (I still have him!) and got the nickname Captain Migraine back in the day.

That's so good - is there a cooler archetype than 'xeno-archeologist'?! It's got everything!

I'm speaking for Curis here, I hope that he doesn't mind, but these are the only other photos of those Salamanders that I recall seeing.

CYOA #12: Doug Orewell, Squat Miner

One of two Squats in the RT Adventurer range the "Squat Miner" is one of the figures that didn't appear in the 1991 Blue Catalogue, which meant that the figure was essentially invisible to many until some time this century.  Painted versions don't appear terribly often, so it was nice to get this little guy finished and photographed.

I found this guy more pleasant to paint than either of the Female Warriors that I painted recently.  It's a mildly dodgy casting of an old sculpt, but had plenty of fun details to work on too.  It means that I feel a bit more motivated about this project than I have for a while, I'm looking forward to getting stuck into some more.

I matched the colour scheme with that of my Construction Crew project from a few years ago.  Doug fits in nicely there.

More info and images can be seen in the blog post if desired.

That's #12 done.  Axiom is up next in a week or so and then Curis again after that.

Thanks for looking!

Hee hee.  Those ones on the Forge World site actually are the very same ones in my Indiana Jones photo.

What can be more representative of the Adventurers range, than a gangly, gawky, bald Navigator?!

He marks a final punctuation point for Inquisitor Clousseau's retinue, hence the display base.
