28mm Early War Germans
« on: 15 July 2017, 03:42:11 PM »
Who makes Early War Germans with jackboots? It seems my choice is between Black Tree Design and Crusader but I have a couple small issues with both these ranges.
Anybody else I don't know about?  (preferably a UK manufacturer or easily available in UK)
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

Just seen the Victory Force Germans. I remembered I even have a couple. Think they are just the size and dramatic poses I need. Looks like I might have to risk a US order!

Thanks Mick, I remembered the Warlord straight after I posted but if they are anything like the metals I find them a bit small.

The Bolt Action plastics are a very similar size to Artizan and Crusader.

Yep it's the size of the Crusader that I have issues with. I got a few of the FJ and they are nearly a head shorter than the Valkyrie Norwegians I need them to go with. So if Artizan and Warlord are the same size I need to find something a bit bigger.  But your replies have been most helpful in saving me effort and money, so seriously thanks for that.

On the other hand, if I am going to need to send off to the USA  anyway for the Victory Force, I might as well just buy the Gorgon Norwegians  (which I was trying to avoid) and bin the Valkyrie ones so that would mean I COULD use the Crusader and everything compatible with them, which would work out cheaper in the long run.......so now I'm confused.. :(

I used to work with Norwegians.  Most of them are a head taller than the Germans and British.  :D

I don't disbelieve you. But I will have to think about this...the Gorgon are really nice

Thanks Corporalslim .
Last night I had a good look at what I already had and common sense prevailed. The huge differences in size between the Valkyrie Norwegians and the Crusader FJ turned out to be exaggerated in my mind. In actuality it's only about 2-3 millimetre. They will all work fine together, which means I can stick with my original plan to buy Crusader Early War Germans, Fallshirmjager , Brits and French.
I already bought some Black Tree Design Gebirgsjager in the sale, which I like. They look much better in the hand than on the website.

I will still need to send off to the US to buy the Gorgon French Foreign Legion, as these are essential and inescapable.  Also no-one at all makes Chasseurs Alpins, which is frustrating.

I have some Artizan and Crusader Germans.  They're very, very similar in height and do mix well - however the Crusader ones are generally bit "chunkier" in the body.  Looks like the Crusader ones have been spending too much time in the canteen while the Artizan ones have been on short rations.

Yes it's not the Artizan/Crusader/Black Tree differences that are the problem- it is the difference between all of these and the Valkyrie Miniatures Norwegians. But I will live with it.

Must admit I have never heard of Valkyrie Miniatures
If their Norwegians are bigger than Gorgons they must be giants indeed

EDIT Can only find 1/35th scale tank crew under that name?

Gorgon Miniatures are big then? I haven't seen any in the flesh but as they are sculpted by Mike Owen I presumed they would be same as Artizan.

I saw some of the Norwgians in the flesh and they were luverly sculpts but noticeably bigger than my BTD figures.
Cannot speak for their other ranges but they would be fine in a complete force of their own
