Cool, always appreciated. I like the idea of leafing the static gras, I'll try that one.

I like your idea.
I just bought some tufts (last week) which are essentially the same as that.
I did not think about making them from scratch.
I will have to experiment.

Don't worry, we're getting used to it now  ;)

Lovely look base though, whichever way up it is and the blog post was an enjoyable read, certainly made me chuckle  :D

cheers

not only is a good basing tutorial but you were also able to make a base for "Bilbo wearing the ring!"  :)
Cheers,
Pedro

Great tutorial - and superb basing!

(Ironically enough, I've always taken to heart your advice from White Dwarf: "keep bases as simple as possible" and "glue on sand and paint it green"! I think your stylised, simple bases from the 80s look brilliant too.)

It certainly did. That brushwork is a pure masterclass in shadow and reflected light.

I'm going to see if I can get the same effect on my 'LXG Rodney Skinner sans clothes' miniature that I've been putting off painting till now.

You Sir are an inspiration to us all.  ;)

Thank you for your kind comments...

It's nice to see that you are all as mad as me... lol.

Hobgoblin.
I still believe in keeping my bases fairly simple... having spent time painting my toys I want the basing to enhance and display them .

I am not against adding the odd small bush or clump of heather to bigger unit bases but again not to the extent that it detracts from the miniatures.

Hmmm! " glue on sand and paint it green "... I have been struggling on how to rebase some of my Little Britons shiny toy soldiers... that my be the answer.

Listening to my own advice.....who would have thunk it... lol

All the best. Aly
