This depends very much on the scale of the figures.
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

between 120 & 180mm frontage and 120mm depth? let's say 20x20mm footprint per figure. So that's about the same as your thinking. Depends on the grid system you're using for 'To the Strongest'? Are you planning on using individual basing on something like 60x60mm?

Depending on the pike position, you might want to consider basing infront of the base to provide protection to lowered pike.

Mine vary on the rule set. As per the post on Cerignola I just posted, mine start at 36 and go up to 72 when using Pike and Shotte. For other rules they go up to 216.

For TtS I'd probaly go for 54 - 9 wide, 6 deep, nine stands 3x3, six to a stand, stands 45mm x 45mm. That has a certain density and shape to it.

216?*  Olicana is definitely "Mr Pike Block".

(* Typing that  just reminded me of Steve McQueen's incredulous response when Dicky Attenborough tells him how many prisoners he plans to get out of Stalag Luft III in "The Great Escape". )

No plan survives first contact with the dice.
