Long-haired brush
« on: 02 November 2017, 04:55:46 PM »
I'm trying to paint eyes on my first figure, using the Army Painter Insane Detail brush.

The brush has one single hair that's a fraction of a millimeter longer than all the rest. I didn't notice it until I went to "dot the eye" and found it not only in my way, but it had the tiniest drop of paint leaving marks where I didn't want them.

Will it harm the brush if I trim that one hair down to size?

Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn’t. The hairs in a brush are naturally tapered, and cutting them can disrupt the brush. However, not attempting the cut usually results in a brush you can’t use, so you don’t really have a choice. Good luck.

I tackle errant hairs by teasing the hair away from the rest with a very sharp blade, then sliding the blade down the hair to snip off that single hair at the ferrule.
