Ghost Archipelago: Small Warband options?
« on: November 21, 2017, 04:11:21 AM »
As you may have read in my earlier thread, I am going to be running G.A. for a large group of players, typically 6+, I'm thinking. I've decided upon each warband having a Heritor, Warden, and three soldiers.

I'm going to be using my Splintered Light Miniatures anthropomorphic animals -- ratmen, bearmen, weaselmen, (you name it!), etc., that I've been collecting and painting for awhile. There are some animal types that I think would be very cool and appropriate to vary slightly the standard lineup. For example, these Frogmen:

They should have Amphibian, right? But how to balance that out, with my above scheme of Warden, Heritor, and 3 soldiers? What would be the approximate worth of this ability for all 5 figures? Say, I give players players a choice of 100 gp of specialists (two 50 gp, one 100 gp, or one 75 gp and banking the remainder). Would giving the Frogmen warband the Amphibian trait be worth that 100 gp, meaning they got all standard crew? Or less, or more?

I also want to be able to use these Bearmen. I have a 25mm brown bear figure that would make a great "Warhound" for this warband. How much should that be worth if I use it as one of the soldiers, with the standard warhound stat line in G.A.? Would it be equal to a standard crewman, or one of the specialists?

Any other suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a newbie Frostgrave player, having played only one intro game run by a friend.

:) id suggest not adding amphibian or using odd stats yet.
I am currently running a campaign of . heritor .warden. 2 specialist 2 crew.
so far so good ...but using regular stats until everyone gets it.

Thanks everyone!

I love Splintered Light Miniatures, but picking a scale for them is problematic. When they first came out, they produced 15m figures, and billed them that way. Then they started calling them 18mm, then 20mm. Some of the later animals were larger, and if you go ont he website, many of them are now listed as 28mm.

It really all depends on the animals. For example, here are some sizes for bottom of feet to eyes (always the standard, I've been told):

Bear 29mm
Wolverine 19mm
Wildcat 18mm
Skunk 16mm
Fox 15mm
Raccoon 13mm

All the way down to the mice, shrews, and hedgehogs, which are short in comparison. So, what scale do you call them? Plus, who's to say how tall a anthropomorphic Wildcat should be? Should it be a bit smaller than humans? Same size? Bigger?

Feel free to ask I can give you sizes on any of the other ones, as well.

I've loved these ever since I first saw them at Origins in 2004 or so.  But yeah, the scale inconsistencies are super irritating.  I actually have a lot more of Dark Sword's anthropomorphic line because of that.
