28mm Winter Orcs..what's out there?
« on: 14 December 2017, 09:53:35 PM »
Hi all

Looking for orcs suitable for winter settings - ideally wearing heavy clothing and matching in style the old Grenadier/Copplestone/EM4/Mirilton lot. Any suggestions welcome.

What about Frostgrave plastics (Gnolls?) with some orc heads (Wargames factory?). A bit of an old school vibe but not entirely Grenadier etc.

A few of the packs from Alternative Armies have orcs and hobgoblins with cloaks.  They should fit with Mirliton.
On another thread Beefcake mentioned Viking Forge and looking there I can see a number of figures wearing cloaks and furs.

Depending upon what you want, one option would be to use some of the Lucid Eye Neanderthals or, possibly, Cro Magnon minis.

It was actually Mr Almost ready here that mentioned it in the other thread. I just backed him up on them.  :)

Some of the Reaper orcs are dresses in furs - including some of the Bones ones.

Also, while all the Nick Lund Grenadier orcs are still available from Mirliton, you can pick up his slottabased Black Orcs fairly readily on eBay. I've bought a fair few for what I'd have paid for new ones from Mirliton or less. The Chronicle Black Orcs (including some of Ugezod's Death Commandos) are better figures than the Grenadier ones, despite being earlier. But it's the slotta ones you want; the earlier ones are very small (I use them as 15mm ogres).
