Cheers mate. I'm really hoping they paint up more easily than other cavalry have in the past.

During the heatwave last week it was too hot to paint, but I got some more assemblies done. These Crusader Hearthguard by Stronghold Terrain must be some of my favourite ever metal miniatures - they just have tons of character and the poses are all brilliant. I didn't need (or want) to repose or rework these guys at all, just slapped some fur pelts on them to initiate them into the Order as veteran foot sergeants.

I'll also enter these into the Saga Thorsday painting comp - paint and base a unit of Warriors by July 31st. Let's see if I can do it...

Some progress painting up the War Wagon. It's a pretty involved project, still a fair amount to do on the interior before I get on to the crew, and then the vignette of the wounded being dragged on board will take a while after that.

Have to get this done before 13th August - where I'm hoping to run the Black Order under the Eastern Princes battle board at Britcon!

And it's DONE.

Easily one of the most involved projects I've worked on for the Order. This started life as a 1st Corps war wagon, which I converted a little with some Fireforge pavises and a couple of horses from the Forgotten World range (to match the rest of the army).

Although the war wagon will see use mostly in Saga, under the Eastern Princes faction, I wanted this to reflect slightly more realistic wagenburg use as seems to have been the case historically (using the Hussite Wars largely as an inspiration). Although the Saga wagon has the Unarmed and Improvised Projectiles rules, reflecting a crew of peasants throwing stones, I still wanted this to look like a military unit, so I put some crossbowmen in the wagon itself. I head-canon the actual impact the crossbows have as disrupting, distracting and diverting the enemy through the Lure of Avarice rule, forcing them to engage the war wagon as a threat, rather than dealing outright damage to enemy units.

So, the wagon serves as a mobile distraction unit, forcing the enemy to divert their attention from the Order's warriors. As the vignette on the base - from Reconquer Designs - also indicates, the wagon can serve as a casevac for wounded soldiers.

Thoughts? I'm hoping to use this in Britcon, coming up in just over a week, so fortuitous timing to have finished it!

Amazing! That's a brilliant bit of work!

It's a superbly evocative creation too - it oozes narrative.
