The ship's turned out great! Great work on the sail as well!

I've had a lot of trouble getting the sail itself to actually stick to the mast on my end, how have you pinned it? If you don't mind me asking!

@Happychappy - maybe we can have a Westerosi naval game at some point?  :D

I'll have to get a move on with my Fury build in that case!  lol

Cog looks great mate  8)

Might I suggest darkening the bronze and giving it some suitable weathering (patina, salt residue etc)?

Thanks everyone, glad you like it

I’ll take some close ups of the mast/sail, to show the pin arrangement  :)

Thanks James for your suggestions.  :)

I didn’t want to go overboard (no pun intended) on the weathering, as I quite like the shiny shiny, but I guess bronze oxidises quicker in salt water  - do you reckon a wash with something like strong tone would help, or would you suggest painting (but with a bit less gold in the mix) ? Again, I did try and give a hint of the green patina, but could make it more obvious?

I think if you add a bit of brown paint to the ink/strong tone to make it a little less watery that might work. Gently wiping it off will help as well. Try it on something else first to make sure you're happy with the technique,I don't want you to mess it up and blame me  lol

The cog is great but that hand-painted sigil is all sorts of awesome  :-*

I’ve had one of those cogs in a box for years, and it’s been allocated to various projects that have died. One day I will use it.

Had a go on my lunch break and I think it looks alright....definitely a bit darker than before anyway...added a bit more patina as well (didn’t want to overdo it).

I've had a lot of trouble getting the sail itself to actually stick to the mast on my end, how have you pinned it? If you don't mind me asking!

Basically I drilled a small hole into the sail spar, and popped a pin in, which I’d previously bent into an L-shape, the idea being that it would just rest on top of the cut down pin that I’d already drilled into the mast.  Apparently I didn’t put enough glue on the pin (it is a very small hole that I drilled), so the L-Shape still moved about, so I just added a second pin as a bar, so I can rotate it into position...it actually works better (as it holds it more securely than my original idea of using a single pin).

Here it is in position, with the L-shaped pin rotated round.

What it does mean, is that I can swop  out the mast for the furled version that comes with the kit, or a completely different sail... from {cough} one of the other kits I’ve got the build{cough}  ;)

Thanks for the explanation! The latch setup with two pins is a great idea, I may have to copy that!

The extra shading and corrosion on the bronze definitely turned out well too!

The Zvezda cog lends itself to interchangeable sails, given it comes with two options, but I guess there‘s no reason that it couldn’t be applied to any kit...at the very least, it’s relatively easy to make furled sails from scratch.
