What rules do people use to play ACW? I have John Reb III rules (had them for years) but I have never played them. They look complex and a little dated by modern systems, IMHO. What other rules are available for ACW?

I may use a modified LOTOW if I can not find something else.

I use brother v brother for 28mm large scale skirmish and polemos for 6mm large battles . For 15mmI used to use johnny reb they were great but were complex I cant recall the name off hand but the peter pig acw rules are very good for large quick games i dont own theem but have playerd them a few times.

The key question is what scale of actions you are trying to represent.

My favoured rules for the large scale actions are Fire & Fury. I know some people don't think they're detailed enough or like the base removal but I have yet to find another set which is as easy to pick up and yet provides the right feel.

Fire and Fury every time for big games. Principles of War for smaller actions.

I use Brother against Brother a simple skirmish game with a lot of potential. It's based on poker card drawing and battles are about company size (50 to 100 models per side)

I use Brother Against Brother for my ACW games as I've just never managed to get enough figures painted...

I own Fire and Fury, both JRII and JRIII and downloaded a copy of Honour and Glory.

For 15mm we always come back to JRII. It is complex and is focused on combat a level down from Fire and Fury, but still by and far my favorite.

For 28mm we usually focus on skirmishes using Brother against Brother or a system I wrote a few years back.

For larger actions, we have Fire & Fury, and an unused copy of JR, but usually use the Peter Pig rules "Civil War battles" :

15MM Brigade level, large games, Fire & Fury
28MM Regimental, played JRII (lost my copy), Looking to try Crusaders Rank & File

Fire & Fury; 15mm large to medium games.

LoTOW; 25mm scenario based skirmish.

Some also use TSaTF, but not regularly.

Thanks for all the feed back. I am thinking of starting 28mm ACW for small or skirmish games (30 to 60 minis a side). As I mentioned I have RebIII, which is just too out dated by today's gaming standards, IMHO. The more I think about it, the more I think LOTOW slightly modified will probably suit me at the moment (no money to out lay as I have all the books). I will look into the games systems already mentioned.
I have also been thinking about modifying Warmaster Ancient rules to play 10 or 15mm ACW. I think it would make for a fast and fun game.

Now to get some Perry ACW minis.

Wasn't there a rumour going around about a Warhammer Historical ACW ruleset? Has anyone heard something about that project again?

Peter Pig 15mm ACW have a surprising amount of detail.
