Iyanden Eldar
« on: July 01, 2009, 02:19:10 PM »
I recently decided to paint some GW Eldar miniatures just for the pleasure of it. Here are some guardians in Iyanden colours. I chose it because I wanted to experiment with Yellow and I am pleased with the result.

4 of the models are snap-fit ones, and two of them have their heads re-positioned.

A close-up

They have been primed with a light grey and then painted with a yellowish brown from Vallejo. A couple of washes with Sepia and Brown followed, to give definition, and then the colour was rised with Golden Yellow and further mixes with White. The shuricats are bleached bone with a simple wash of leather brown.

Nice work on those guys!

I really like the deep, rich color, especially on your yellows.

Keep it going!

And then, my Vyper. I painted this model simply because I loved it. Sleek and elegant.

I am old school, so I used the Space Marine (epic v2) convention of inverting the yellow-blue scheme for Iyanden in the vehicles, so the cockpit is mainly blue.

I didn't glue the cockpit to allow viewing the control panel and pilot.

Very nice, the yellows are very well done, as is the flame motif along the edge. How did you do the yellow?

I explained it briefly on the first post: Vallejo Scrofulous (or something like that) Brown over a grey primer coat. This colour is a mostly yellow brown that covers really well. A couple of brown washes are given to provide definition and shadows, and then, slowly picking up the rised zones with golden yellow with more and more white in each new coat (very thinned)

Nice work on your yellows.  It's one of those colours I hate to paint because if you're not careful, you often get a green tint to it.
Iyanden is not normally my favourite Craftworld, mainly because of the armour colour.  I normally prefer Ulthwé (black) or Biel-Tan (green).  However, I have an old Armorcast Eldar Phantom Titan that I eventually hope to paint up (as soon as I fill all the bleedin' airholes!) and the best scheme I've found for it, complete with markings and standards, is Iyanden.  Fortunately, it's green, which I can paint, but I'd like to have a couple of foot troops for scale.
Why take Life seriously? You'll never get out of it alive!
