New movie The Legend of Tomiris

The Legend of Tomiris - New film about a warrior Queen fighting Cyrus the Great,  I am afraid I do not know much about her but the film looks 'epic'.

Another film shot in the land of perpetual gloom. Since when were Scythians a Mongol people? Also the Massagetae are described as using a lot of bronze and gold. I might watch it if it comes on a streaming service but I wouldn't pay to see it in a cinema. Really tired of all these "historic" films that are dark and gloomy with costumes that look like they were stolen from the homeless.

The Massegetae were not necessarily Scythians, some have conjectured that they were Alans et cetera.
Looks like an interesting film,no stirrups! Hope the horses were not injured in the stunts.

Alans were still Indo-Europeans, the Ossetians are descended from them I believe. There is also a school of thought which links them to the Getae of Dacia.

The trailer looks brilliant  :-* :o

Yeah, a double edged sword; no stirrups for historical accuracy but like you say, potentially worrying for the welfare of the horses.

Does anyone know of any info to indicate where this will be screened?

The horses?!

They’ve got 4 legs.  The worry needs to be for the riders!

Not sure how many have owned horses but I can assure you riding without stirrups is not dangerous for the horse.  But it certainly is for the rider.

Thanks. must have overlooked the date- if available in Region 2 then it's a buy as far as I'm concerned.

It appears that you're right on this. I don't ride :)

Could be a false report, but I saw somewhere that the languages used in the movie include ancient Persian and ancient Turkic. If true, the latter would seem to be an oversight, as I believe the Massagetae would have spoken an ancient Iranian dialect. Guess they didn't want to reconstruct one?

True.

But riding bareback makes you a better rider overall. (It makes you appreciate the saddle!  ;))

Going downhill is very much easier with stirrups.

Looks like the filmmakers are Kazakh, so that may account for some of the film's *cough* conjectures about who the Massegetae were.

If you look at some of the stunts, some of the horses fall, hence my statement.

I should have followed your advice of caution. But as my english is not that good as you know, I tried "bareback riding "search on the net, to improve myself liguistically that is. Well, well,  there is no question of horses apparently... at least with four legs.
