I couldn't wait, so got started on the Stormtroopers today. I figured that my hobby room is nice and cool, and house was empty because the womenfolk had gone to the pool, so plenty of time to get that squad done, right?
Wrong...
Several tutorials convinced me that Stormtroopers are 'quick and easy to paint up'. Well I call shenanigans on that!
I eventually went with Duncan Rhodes' method (over Sorastro, Spikey Bitz and some Asian-American woman who only drybrushed), although the fact that he basecoated with a light grey, and a zenithal white, where I started with a full white may have worked against me.
I compensated by doing a blueish grey wash over the white, but on second thought, I should have skipped the second layer, as I find it a tad too stark now.
I then picked out all panels with VGC Wolf Grey, leaving the wash in the recesses.
This I then highlighted with white.
The black areas were then painted with VMC German Grey, and the eyes with straight black.
And after some corrections, this is where we stand right now.

This took me over two hours, and that's not as quick as stated by those esteemed Youtubers, especially for such a near monochrome model. Also, being WotC bendies, both size and sculpting style differ from sculpt to sculpt, not to mention the often shallow detail (due to both casting limitations of the soft plastic and the oftentimes globbed on prepaint layers

)
But I
am satisfied with the results, stark as the contrast may be.
And the process was enjoyable enough for me to stick with it for the 29 others waiting patiently for their turn. I will however not be batchpainting an entire squad this way, there is my sanity to consider after all

I think I might still do some highlights on the gun and hands though, and some sandy weathering to drive home the Tatooine theme. Also, I only now noticed in the picture that the base rim could do with another layer of paint...
