Island/rocky hill fixer upper
« on: September 22, 2020, 12:11:02 AM »
I think I need some helpful suggestions on this build please.

Background
I found a Lemax winter ski hill display base at a local thrift store, for only a few bucks. To me it looked like a good base for an island and/or escarpment, but some of the texture, was off, and also the top surface was too uneven.
So I sanded the plateau, then added some textured basing material. I want to keep the plateau relatively flat, that way I can swap out scenery elements, all of them mounted to the same sized base. The plateau is roughly 12"x 9".

Next I have to figure out how troops will get to the top. The plan is to add a path along the left side of the cliff.

The question
Does the wattle retaining fence as seen in the pictures below work? Should I build a more typical retaining wall, or fence? Should the wattle look more like branches?
Some other suggestion(s)?

I would appreciate any comments.

Thank you

Chris

I’d be tempted to make the retaining wall out of locally available materials. On a rocky and possibly treeless island, that’d be rocks. It would make some nice hard cover for your games.
