Eastern Renaissance.
« on: October 04, 2020, 08:22:39 PM »
I've been mulling over getting into the Eastern Renaissance for years. Now Christmas is coming up and inspired by recent posts, I'm ready to take the plunge. I'm familiar with many manufacturers but, I'd like some recommendations for 28mm 16th &17th C. Hungarians, Serbs and Ottomans.
Thanks.

Hi, for Ottomans I would look at "The Assault Group" aka TAG. They also have other small ranges of Eastern Europeans.

Another vote for The Assault Group (TAG). They have comprehensive range across a number of armies and mixing and matching is also useful as the different nations heavily influenced each other.

Warlord Games also do Ottoman Turks but I’m not sure which part of the 16th/17th century they are most suitable for.  They look very nice.

Any comments on Redoubt's Ottomans. Unfortunately their site has no pics. I'm not a business man but, I think you'd want to show your products to this market in particular.

I bought some redoubt Ottomans a while back and what were once excellent castings clearly have had their day. The moulds are worn and need replaced. That combined with the poor service from redoubt put them way down the list. A great pity.

TAG would get my vote. A decent range with supporting Balkan figures too.

Trent miniatures might be worth a look, they have some nice Ottomans now but not a huge range.

Warlord games infantry are quite nice but I find the cavalry a bit wooden.

Warfare Miniatures (League of Augsberg) has been releasing Ottomans as well.  I don't have any of these (yet!) but I have other figures from Barry and am right pleased with them.  So far only infantry in the webstore:

But cavalry should be there soon (maybe drop Barry an email to give him a hurry up!)

EDIT

Looks like I spoke too soon, the Warfare Miniatures USA page has both cavalry and infantry!

I’ve got some Redoubt Ottomans.  Size wise they match up with TAG but the poses are stiffer and the castings much less crisp.  You can use them to fill holes in the rear ranks, but they’re more difficult to paint well.
