Black Army - New Greens from Leandro Ventic: Mata Hari
« on: August 19, 2009, 12:13:33 AM »
Hi, everybody.

Leandro just finished the last part of his commission from me for the next wave of my "Champions of History" range. One of the two figs in this last set was the notorious Mata Hari.  I think he did an amazing job with this one; he based her very closely on photo references that I sent along, and believe me - she LOOKS like Mata Hari. This is not some generic exotic dancer type. She's even wearing one of Mata Hari's actual outfits!

I wasn't sure where to put Mata. She's an historical personality, but she'd probably be used most commonly in ww1-era Pulp adventures. So, I wasn't sure whether she belonged in WW1 or Pulp. Mods, feel free to move her if I made the wrong choice.

I was so pleased with the initial shots that I wanted to share them with you. Hope you like her as much as I do.

I've got images of the other green in this set, John Dillinger, somewhere. I misplaced them, but when I find them again, I'll post them.

I'm still waiting on those other eight masters from the first wave to arrive here so that I can send them off to the caster, so that's the current hold up. However, assuming they arrive soon, I expect that Mata Hari, Dillinger, the other work from Leandro, and several bits I need to commission from Curtis, will be available sometime in the September/October timeframe. (Ie: Wave 2). That'll include that awesome Ehrhardt Tobi's done up, too.

she is indeed a beautiful figure in many respects, but the hands rather let down the rest of the figure. I appreciate that there may be casting issues that prevent configuring the hands differently, but frankly they look unfinished compared to the superb detail on the rest of the figure.

Oh damn, now I will need a Mr Walker and a Mata Hari!!  :-*

One criticism, I know we like large mammaries but according to Wiki she was not over generously endowed which is why she kept her bra on during performances despite shedding almost everything else. The figure is still very useful in lots of other scenarios.
Cheers,

Actually, I think her breasts are in about the right proportion, if you take into account that she's sort of shoving them forward in a dance move, so while I agree with that Wiki article (a rare thing), I don't think they're overly large for her frame. They may be a bit padded, as well. It's almost identical to a posed dance photo I've seen of her.

Heldrak -

You are entitled to your opinion, my friend. I actually her hands look fine. Maybe you'll like them more when they're cast in metal, or painted up?

Everybody -

Delighted that you like her:) I hope she'll be used in many adventures.

You've got it, Bob. Will let you know ASAP.

This is basically part of an eight figure mold. Four figures in the mold have been sculpted. Hopefully, if sales go well on the initial sixteen figs, we will see these in production around September/October.
