I'm thinking about starting an imagi-nation collection to fight some fictional / fantasy 'Chinese Civil Wars' set in a fictional 'ancient period' setting. Something where I might mix up figures from various ancient sub periods and states (e.g. Sung, Han, Khitan, Tibetan, Mongol, etc.) to make up the units of my 'East Asian' fictional protagonists.

I'm looking at historical miniatures only; I'm not looking at fantasy beasts, or anything 'Conan style', etc.; I'm would avoid using Japanese if I can.

I know that 1st Corps have a pretty extensive range in 28mm, and Essex do some Khitans and Tang Dynasty, but wo else makes figures for the broad church I'm looking at.

I was going to ask "for which dynasty?," but I see that it would be a mix of them. How far back, though? Would Han be the earliest? Anyway, here are the beginnings of a list. "Best" is in the eye of the beholder, though, so the list hasn't been pruned.

Anyway, for Mongols, Tang, Song, and Sui, there is TAG:

The Foundry's Huns might pass as Xiongnu:

Newline sell both Han and later Chinese:

They are represented in the UK by Ainsty:

Zenit have a new range, but they have a touch of fantasy, and appear to span (and mix) several dynasties:

Not much to add to that extensive list. Very hard to find now but there is the John Jenkins range which is still my favourite.

I have been recently considering a clear out so drop me a pm if interested. I have unpainted JJD, Newline, Watchful I etc.

Svennn, if I may also express my interest in any Warring States figures that you have, which seem to be from earlier than Olicana's originally intended period, I would be interested in any and all JJD...

There is also the Mike Owen sculpted Ming which were sold by at least two companies, the names of which both escape me. Northstar have a set by Mike too in one of the Osprey game ranges.

I believe that the Ex-Cavalcade, ex-Forlorn Hope Ming are now in the hands of our friend Sir Barnaby Hammond-Rye:

There is also a Ming facebook group of which at least one member has been commissioning Steve Barber to sculpt more Ming:

And here is another list:

I think amassing the list of Companies is interesting but would warn about “comparability”. As stated 1st Corps produce a extensive range of both their own and the former Curteys Miniatures figures. However they are quite small and in a distinctive style. Probably not compatible with other sculpts.
