I agree -- these figs all look like they could work with your scale. I mean, who's to say if some strange alien is out of scale?  :D Same with monsters...it's just a slightly bigger monster!

Great looking stuff -- and the eyes on the alien look awesome!

The wasteland warrior should be in the Gaslands range by Northstar. The figures in that range were sculpted by Mark Copplestone.

thank you, calling it a Copplestone wasteland warrior threw me.

What a fantastic thread!!
Just been right through it, some really great stuff to look at.
I've got loads of Dark future figures and vehicles plus the Copplestone wasteland stuff (ignore dozygiraffe he can't find his own backside with both hands)

I am inspired, I will dig out my stuff and think about the possibilities!

Thanks! I’m glad it’s inspirational. That’s one of the main reasons I post to this form and my blog… maybe someone else out there in internet land also loves the old Dark Future line and they’ll come across this little oasis. It is my favorite of the minis projects I’ve worked on. I’ve got some more units to add to the gangs and it looks like another line of 1/72 post apoc/dystopia/cyberpunk models are coming from Maceface and Northstar. Looking forward to those.

I’d love to see you kickoff a thread with your project at this scale. Seeing what others do in this setting at this scale is awesome.

If you can believe it, I finally, _finally_, played a game of Xenos Rampant with this collection.
And it was fantastic!!

Both my opponent and I loved it. We’ve got experience with the system through Dragon Rampant, so that helped. Any fears of how the Rampant system would incorporate modern/future massed ranged attacks were unfounded in our games. We thought the system was modified well. We didn’t incorporate any vehicles in these first few games, but we’ll roll those onto the table next time. We did have a side with Psychic Powers and they didn’t seem overpowered… that same side lost both games!

Anyway, we did a mixed Earth Defense Force vs Invaders and their human toadies.

Magnificent! The figures and setting all work great together - very inspiring!

I’m glad to hear that Xenos Rampant works well. I have it, but haven’t played it yet- the fellow I was most likely to play with tried it and immediately wrote it off after one game (he can he like that). I’m not sure exactly what his issues with it were.

The only thing I didn’t like during my read-through was the shift to 10/5 damage point units rather than the original 12/6 points*. In Dragon Rampant I like how 12 divides evenly by 2, 3,4, 6 which gives a fairly wide set of options for reduced model units (and a 6 point unit still can be divided by 2 and 3. 10 only gives you 2 and 5, and a 5 point unit doesn’t divide evenly, which I find limiting.

I would probably house rule to give units 12/6 damage in Xenos, but I haven’t worked out whether that would mess up other parts of the game play…

* No idea if it’s true, but someone told me the decision to shift to 10/5 was so that units would fit more easily with GW’s 40K unit sizes. If so, I think it was a daft choice - yeah, mirroring GW units might appeal to some players, but I think most folks could figure out a way to apply 12 points to a 10 model unit (2 team leaders have 2 damage points each, others have 1 - done!)

The game looks amazing! Glad you finally got a chance to play with those excellent figs you've been painting up. I agree, XR! works great. I played in a modern game using them and was surprised by how survivable the normal, 5-man units were.

Painted up a few loose figs for my Ninja-type faction. They are from L to R: a red ninja from the Dark Alliance Stalker set, an Elheim survivor, a street samurai troll from the old Ral Partha Shadowrun line (as an Oni), and one of the Citadel Dark Future street warrior models as a stylin’ Yakuza boss. These characters flesh out the rest of my models to make a full Xenos Rampant Detachment. I might make the Oni character one of the rare Elite Units in my collection. It seems that might make sense with the range and melee weapons he’s packing plus oni magicks. In hindsight, I wish I had painted all my ninja models red. Oh, well.

Absolutely love this gang! Thr way you've tied together all these different minis works so well here. Tempted to.pick up some of these myself!

MaceFace's DarkZone 20mm project first 5 packs have been cast up ;-)

Thanks all.

Yeah, I agree with Mike that the XR tweaks to the Rampant system work well to handle high volume range attacks. I think the Firefight counter action, along with Go to Ground and giving units cover bonus if within 3inches of cover do the trick. Firefight especially, because it prevents a unit from just being a sitting duck and getting wiped out before they can do anything.

@pattus magnus - I remember reading the same thing regarding the units being increments of five to match the usual GW release. I agree with you though. I’d much prefer the classic 6 and 12 Rampant units. I’ve also thought of switching over because I’ve got some units that I want to field as 2 or 3 models and that doesn’t work great as evenly distributed RMUs in the rules as written. It feels like I get pushed up to making those units of 5 models, and I don’t really like that forced hand. One of the allures to this system to me is how free wheeling unit creation can be. To be fair though, I can still do 3 models in a 5 strength point unit, so the rules work. It’s really just a preference in my end on how I’d rather track strength.

@Maceface - Thanks! I feel that little detachment came together well with what I was going for. Part of the joy at this scale for me is the creativity in finding models that fit. Speaking of models….let’s see a preview of these DarkZone figs! ;)

Just a Tiny preview, as I'll do a proper post once the official NS photos are out...

Hope you like!

Yep, these are fantastic!
They’re different from my other gangs, the creative juices for these scavenger/outlander types are flowing.

Haha thanks! Are those from the Syndicate 90s? cyberpunk game? I'll have to look that up again. Cultists defs coming in some form too as they are useful for lots of games.

Awesome! I am hoping to do Dirtbikes for them too, If not using for Zona Alfa I would imagine scavengers riding dirtbikes through storm drains under Las Vegas etc.
Possibly with more high-vis style colour scheme than the army surplus vibe. Lots of different angles to a scavenger type!
