EM-4 / Copplestone miniatures (photo added)
« on: 27 January 2021, 03:05:04 PM »
Hi All

Thinking about jumping on the Stargrave bandwagon and wondered if anyone could comment on the scale/differences between the EM-4 and Copplestone minis. I get the impression there is some slight scale creep on the Copplestone minis but wondered whether that was due to them having an integral base rather than the tabs on the EM-4 ones.

Pics would be gratefully appreciated if anyone has them. Even better pics of the trooper types (I appreciate I might be pushing my look now...).

Thanks

I'm afraid I have no pictures, having sold all the figures, but yes - I am 98% sure that the integral base accounts for all the size difference. If not, it's a major contributor

A lot of the EM4 stuff (metals anyway) were sculpted by Copplestone anyway waayyy back, I have mixed and matched both ranges with no problem.

As the others said, the differences are minimal. The EM4 figures are a tiny bit slimmer in their proportions. To the extent that I notice it at all, the differences are mostly around the figures’ heads/helmets. The Copplestone figures also have a little more fine detail sculpted into their equipment and uniforms and in my opinion are slightly better quality. That said, I am totally comfortable mixing them together in my own collection.

I agree.  Copplestone slightly heftier than his original Grenadier\now EM-4, but I would mix without hesitation.

Thanks all I have a couple of Copplestone minis and have bagged an EM-4 figure from eBay on the cheap to compare.

Hi, a quick Google Image on ‘size comparison X Y’ will give any number of pics, some even with scale background :-)

Worth remembering.

Thanks I tried that but struggled finding decent images which is why I brought the question here:

Hi guys, the trooper is EM-4 the rest are Copplestone Future Wars.
I lined them up at the foot and as you can see I think they’re a solid match; possibly a tad smaller but that could be due to his hunched stance.

Definitely wouldn’t have an issue mixing them.

EM4's near future troopers (like the second one in the above pic) tend to have smaller heads and hands than their Copplestone castings equivalents (EM4s have more realistic proportions IMO). A bit surprising considering both were sculpted by the same person.

Well there was quite a gap in between the two ranges being produced so that might account for the style/size differences. Look at the ranges on Copplestone Castings. Some are huge others not so much.

...Copplestone Castings. Some are huge...

The Neo-sovs, the two packs I had, were huge compared to others in the range.  Odd.  In the BoB range, same oddity with the brits.  Larger than the others.

I’d not previously considered the Em4 troopers so that’s a very useful image to see. Thanks.  8)
