That’s what I was afraid of. Just another costume party. I was hoping that more effort would be put into period productions for a change.

When dealing with controversial aspects of historic social convention, It's difficult to say how to represent those aspects which are offensive in the context of our modern views and would it be difficult to watch if we did.
How would we feel if at the end of Zulu, if as Stanley Baker and Michael Caine were talking how they couldn't face this butchers yard again. There was an occasional crack of a gunshot (or even a bayonetting) in the background as a wounded Zulu was finished off and the body thrown like a sack of potato's into a shallow unmarked mass grave.
It's not something that this is the place to discuss, but how history is presented in the context of drama is a difficult one. Until we start to see how responsibly actual social record is presented by historians balancing the negatives and positives and that soaks into historic drama then I would suggest Costume Dramas will continue largely as the norm.
So if you can't enjoy an historically edited version of a fantasy world then best pass. You may find its something like Man in the High Castle or Enemy at the Door and be pleasantly surprised but as those tend to be the exceptions I would adjust expectations accordingly, real history often takes the backseat to reel history after all.
