I have to admit Lord Raglan, this thread helped tip the balance and convince me to start working on post-WW 2 French Union forces. Thanks for the inspiration. You set a challenging target to aim for!

French Indochina - Fight for the Airstrip. The opening moves saw the Viet Minh deploy from all points of the compass, surrounding the French defenders. The lead squad quickly advanced taking the French Paras by surprise, slotting two of them during the advance to contact.

The Viet Minh began concentrating their fire on the Legionnaires holding the main building in the centre of the battlefield, using hidden set-up to both confuse and avoid any returning fire.

Intense firefights and close quarter combats broke out across the airstrip. No quarter was given by either side and every man knew this was a fight to the death. Following a devastating charge by the veteran French Paras, it ended in a full squad of Viet Minh being wipe out.

A Viet Minh Local Force infiltrate onto the airstrip, supported by the force’s commander. The combination of SMG and rifle fire severely rocked the French, but their nerve held despite losing a number of comrades. The Viet Minh mortar team also opened up, but failed to zero in.

After the Viet Minh recoilless rifle  fired and hit the Stuart Light Tank but then failed to damage, all element of surprise was lost. The veteran Paras turned up the heat with some super aggressive fire and close combat. This almighty push was enough to break the back of Viet Minh.

Realising the battle was lost, the Viet Minh platoon commander signalled a full withdrawal of all remaining units. This was a significant bloody nose delivered by the veteran 2nd Foreign Parachute Battalion (2nd BEP). Vive la mort, vive la guerre, vive la Légion Etrangère!!
