Muslim Indian armies?

I’m in the dark a little as to the ‘look’ of these armies.
I know they’ve got a heavy Mongol look perhaps?
Cavalry is abundant, as are possibly elephants!

Where would I start collecting in 28mm for these armies?
Some of the Arab plastics perhaps?
Timurid figures?

Any tips please?

The list I’m looking at is from WAB V2
Which covers quite a broad time, roughly 12th to 14th century?
It’s just a painting project I’m mulling over.
I may stick with what I know and go Numidian yet!!!

The Hindu list covers a much larger period, 450-1500
So maybe figures for that?

Well, at the back end of the 14th CE you do have the Timurids who would certainly make for a very interesting army. I don't really know very much about Muslim Indian armies earlier then that. It's just the way things panned out as I games over the years. Like everyone else I just followed my interests and the Muslim Indian armies never really entered the equation.

I'm sure there will be someone on the forum who has a wealth of info on the subject so don't give up!

I’m not aware of anyone who produces specific figures for “Medieval India”. Gripping Beast produce a “Timurid” range but I guess by “Muslim Indian” you really mean the Delhi Sultanate.

It seems that the Dehli Sultinate would have had a large Persian influence, certainly for its mounted elites.   

As for figures, I know Essex minis do some 28mm Persian figures. Otherwise, I think you might need to do some kit-bashing at least for the mounted. The GB plastic Arab heavy Cavalry on top of some of the Catafract or Gothic heavy cavalry barded horses. Other than that. The Arab infantry would be a good starting point, but you might also want to look into kitbashing those with some more different troops, such as Arab foot with Zulu bodies etc.

I've got a couple of 10mm 16th century armies; had to convert a heck of a lot, no denying it.

I really advise you to look at the list "Medieval Indians" of DBM or DBMM, as a general rule these are excellent lists, very elaborate.

The Indian armies, whether Muslim or Hindu, have many Indian archers, as well as Indian swordsmen, and javelins, often skirmishers ...

The difference is mainly made at the level of the cavalry: abundant in the North of the country (among Muslims therefore) and less present in the South where the climate is not favorable to horses, which are then replaced by elephants ...

The medieval Muslim armies in India had a lot of mercenaries: Persians, Turks, Arabs, Central Asians, do not hesitate to mix your troops, it will be perfectly realistic!
