My ACW Project - Division and Cavalry Commanders
« on: 01 June 2021, 12:14:44 PM »
About 3 years ago my gaming buddy and I collected a few figures for the ACW to play Longstreet, which at best required a brigades worth of troops but we always yearned to play larger scale battles using Black Powder and the Glory Hallelujah supplement.  Now that he has aquired a 12' x 6' table the time was right - and then came lockdown.

However I took the opportunity over lockdown (as did my gaming buddy) to recruit and improve my ACW Union collection.  I started off with some more terrain given that we had a bigger space to fill.

First up a Renendra Barn. I added some Noch ivy to break up the rather monotone brown.

Next a Renendra Church.

And finally some more snake fencing - because you can never have enough fencing on an ACW battlefield.

Next I wanted to base the army round a particular force so I decided to use 3rd Corps 1st Division from the 1862 Manassas-Sharpsburg campaign, especially since it had the Iron Brigade in it.

And of course an army needs a commander so here is Maj-Gen John Porter Hatch.

He commanded the 1st brigade of the division during the Manassas campaign and took command of the divsion in the Antietam campaign after succeeding Brig-Gen Rufus King who retired after suffering epileptic fits.

Our forces include an attached cavalry brigade.  Mine is commanded by Col John F Farnsworth

All figures are a mix of Perry metals and plastics.  Flags are printed off the internet.

Good stuff, well done!

BTW did you have any trouble with fit on some of the Rendera Church parts I’ve seen that noted by some people who have built it? Nice piece I’ve been thinking of getting one myself.

Thank you.  I don't recall any particular problems but you will notice that there is a slight gap in the woodwork supporting the bell tower.  Not enough to be worried about.

Your buildings and fences sure look the part.

And those generals sure look spiffy, too!

Never real tried this period but yours look good :-* :-* :-*
Do you not need a shed load of infantry figures, that is what has put us off.
The big table sounds good as well, looking forward to battle pictures
