Game of Thrones project.
« on: July 22, 2021, 03:15:37 AM »
I've started the main boxed set for Game of Thrones to do some big armies that I may use as a Warhammer Fantasy Battle pre-gunpowder Empire army.

I've also done some of the sets of characters.

Here are the neutral characters:

A little close up here on Brienne because who doesn't like a six foot woman wielding a massive sword.

A different Brienne is in the set of Baratheon characters.

It kind of reminds me of when I was a kid collecting Star Wars figures and getting the different heroes in the different environments, like Luke in his Hoth gear.

The Knight of Flowers is considerably smaller than Brienne.  I'm glad they have paid attention to details like that and didn't just make all the figures one size.

There are a lot of other nice details they have observed across the range.  They aren't perfect but they are very well done.

Here is the set of Baratheon support models.

There are some neat figures in here that could be used for a variety of different things in various fantasy wargames.

The two-handed hammer guy is the best.

I'll post my progress on the rank and file as I go.

Here are the units.  Hopefully I can get a new one done a day.

First up is Lannister great swords.

I'll use these as Empire Greatswords.  Units will probably be smaller with these guys only being units of 12 figures so max rank bonus is +2.

I'm hoping to finish up the halberdiers next and then onto some Stark swordsmen.

Thanks!  One of the things that struck me about the show was how most people were not very colourful.  I tried to follow that with the Starks, but did give the Lanisters their red.

Speaking of the Starks, here is the first unit of Swordsmen.

This brings up an interesting point about the attention to detail on these figures.

The armies are matched in the box and meant to be fighting against each other.  They have made the flags blowing in the same direction if that is the case, so the Stark flag is blowing forward and the Lannister flags are blowing backward from the unit as if they were facing each other and the wind was blowing from behind the Stark forces.

I've not seen this done by anyone else.  A neat little detail that would look very good on the table.

Nice work on those - I find a lot of the CMON sculpts to be hit and miss...some I love, others leave me cold (particularly the ones with chunky armour), but you’ve done a great job on them

The character sets certainly interest me more, especially as there are more of the individuals from the books.

Thanks, guys!  HappyChappy, you've done some really impressive stuff on your Baratheon thread.  Those Greyjoys are superb.

Here are some more, this time Lannister Halberdiers.

I'm working on second unit of Stark swordsmen now.  Hopefully I can post them tomorrow.

Well that didn't happen, but here are some more Lannisters, Swordsmen this time.

Again pretty nice figures.  You get three different poses so it is enough to mix the ranks up pretty well.  With the standard bearer you can make all four figures in the first rank different.

Here is the last unit of infantry for the set, some Umber berserkers.

These guys were fun to paint and the flag is great.

They were relatively easy although I didn't do them until last because they looked like they would be more of a pita than the other units.  They certainly were not.  Compared to the Lannister swordsmen they were dead easy.

Now all that is left is the cavalry and some of the characters.  I'll have all these guys out on the table tomorrow though for a WHFB game where they are going to be a pre-gunpowder Empire army.  We're using 6th edition rules.

And here is the whole force:

They got badly mauled in their first outing as is proper for freshly painted troops.
