Solomon Kane Movie trailer!!!
« on: September 15, 2009, 03:17:00 PM »
Now this looks great!    :o It's ready to go, as they had a screening already at the Toronto Film Festival.

www.solomonkane.com/

"TORONTO - The movie world is upside down. The Hollywood studios are here at the Toronto International Film Festival mostly with small, intimate, indie-type films, and a British independent is here with a $40 million adaptation of Robert E. Howard's "Solomon Kane," a violent 16th-century "Dirty Harry." The film plays tomorrow night at a Midnight Madness screening and seeks U.S. distribution. If all goes well, director Michael J. Bassett and star James Purefoy ("Rome") hope to turn this sword-wielding killer from the creator of "Conan" into a trilogy." September 14th, 2009 -- Philadelphia Daily News

Remind me who makes a suitable figure.  Black Cat IIRC, but I seem to recall there were others.   ???

Fantastic!  I've always felt that our puritan chum Solomon K. deserved a film (or three) and this looks to be a fair adaptation indeed.  Reviews from the Toronto Film Fest can be read here: http://www.solomon-kane.com/2009/09/15/first-reviews-of-solomon-kane-from-toronto-film-festival-are-in/

After recently discovering that the upcoming Conan movie is not to follow in the footsteps of the abysmal Kull the Conqueror and instead is going to be an 'R-rated' bloodbath - as any Conan movie worth its salt should be - this additional news has me scurrying for my R.E. Howard tomes with a maniacal gleam in my eye.

New Conan  movie!?! links to info plz

It's been on the cards for some time, but accurate information seems hard to come by.  There's an enormous thread  on the Official Robert E Howard Forum (http://www.conan.com/invboard/index.php?showtopic=7098) that may take some sifting through to find anything relevent and also a fairly recent blog (http://www.conanmovieblog.com/) which seems to be run by fans, but contains various juicy tidbits.  Whether this new production can come close to touching Milius' masterpiece is another matter ('though if they cram in enough boobs & blood, I'll be happy ;))...

Black Army Productions have a rather nice chappie eminently suitable for potraying the Kanester(http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc178/Mithras77/RIMG1740-1.jpg), though he's not yet released (this month is postulated on the site).  I'm sure Alex will let us all know when he's available in due course (and about that E-V/4 Ehrhardt I've had my beady eye on, too :-*)!

I'm not overly familliar with the books, but this looks like a proper laugh. Definitely one for the list.

Now that look spiffing  :D I really like James Purefoy (especially in 'Rome' when he's finished rodgering that poor farm girl and then walks back to his waiting escort and just roars, brilliant  lol )

From what I can see it looks to be a decent cast aswell and rather well done special effects  :D

(bring on Conan  ;D )

cheers

I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time. I make no pretension about the fact that Solomon is one of my heroes...:)
Don't know what I think about this preview... doesn't seem entirely in keeping with the original theme of the stories. I mean, there were supernatural elements a plenty, but one of the things that made the stories wonderful was that Solomon was wandering the world (initially sixteenth century America), running through perfectly normal sixteenth century settings only to encounter insidious villainy. Evil hiding in plain sight. This looks much more fantastical....

I'll still see it, of course:) And I could be totally wrong about my misgivings.

Thanks for the mention, Funghy:)

Our err... "Abel, Puritan Witch Hunter" has been master cast and I'm still awaiting word from the caster about when he'll be available. I have exactly two (count 'em) copies in my posession at the moment. They did cast up very nicely, and I need to paint up one of them as a sample.

I had planned to have him for sale this week, but the caster hasn't been very good about returning emails lately, so... all I can tell you is that the production molds are done and that the spins should be happening at SOME POINT.... *sigh* I would guess at a time for delivery, but I really don't want to give any false hope, and it seems as if every time I give a definite date, some sort of delay makes a liar out of me. I can only appeal for  patience, and assure you that, if I had complete control of the situation, they would have been available in July, at the latest.

I will say that there will be about fifty in the initial spin, so should be plenty to go around.

The Ehrhardt is here, in master form. I will be sending it off as soon as I hear something from the caster. Theoretically, this production run is supposed to include the Euzkadi, so once that's cleared, the E4/V4 will be next on the list for molding/production. Normally, making molds for the caster takes one to two weeks.

Me neither. Yes, this definitely looks like it will be worth seeing. Purefoy looks perfect for the role and the baddies look great. Lets hope the script is good and if so we should have fun with this.

Should be plenty of scenario ideas for "Fear and Faith" too :D

I have to agree with Doc Twilight, I got hold of the complete Solomon Kane stories a few years back, and found them to be some of the best Howard did next to the Conan stories. This film, while looking good, could really be any kind of lord of the rings knock off, it doesnt feel like Kane to me.
