Question - Royal Navy Helmet during Falklands?
« on: August 12, 2021, 12:33:50 PM »
Does anyone know what the helmet was worn by RN gun crew during the Falklands?

My interest is that it would also have been worn by armed shore parties late 1970s/early 80s...

Tarv have a figure pictured wearing it at the bottom of the link below, and it’s not an army MkIV

http://www.tarvmodels.co.uk/?page_id=163

Would like to make some figures to represent them, but the TARV minis are too small for my needs.... would a British WW2 paratrooper helmet be a good representation??

....and does anyone do a head sprue with plain steel helmet heads that might work?

 :?

No idea on what the helmet is; other than Commando Miniatures (Now Warbases) do a pack of 1960s Royal Navy in what appears to be the same helmet...

That helmet looks fairly straightforward.
I am sure with all your green stuff practice on the 'Feast for Crows' you can chuck a bit of putty on any head of your choosing.

Maybe, but I’m being lazy....too much else I’d rather be getting on with than making a bunch of uniform-looking helmets  ;)

Its the WW2 Para helmet that got adopted by other military types.

Its on our to do list as some infantry units adopted it and Falklands Paras still used them until the newer version, that we do do, was completely supplied.

This is very useful;

Fair enough.
I guess doing more than a couple could be quite tedious...and knowing your projects there will be 'thousands of them'!

Thanks for the link Paul, will have a read.

Well if you have plans for a sprue of plain helmets, I’ll wait for those...plenty of other things to keep me occupied in the meantime  :D
