Wargaming in the Whoniverse
« on: September 21, 2021, 01:00:39 PM »
Hello everyone,

To my great delight, I have begun to notice a decent amount of Doctor Who fans among us. I thought that I would share my own soldiers with you.

While I do have some others, I am starting with the Black Tree Design range:

These are my Silurians and a Sea devil, 2 different races which inhabited the Earth many Millions of years ago, they fled underground when their scientists predicted an impending Catastrophe which turned out to be the Moon.
They are featured in: "Doctor Who and the Silurians", "The Sea Devils" and "Warriors from the deep".

These are my future humans so far, 2 Mechonoids from "the chase", they were meant to build a colony for humans but the colonists never arrived because of a war. These ones are actually a lot smaller than those in the show, it doesn't really matter though, robots can be of any size.
The chap in the middle is a "22nd Century guerilla" from the story "Day of the Daleks", however I painted him as a SSS agent from "The Daleks Master Plan" as I thought I'd have more use for one of those.

Here are my 2 UNIT soldiers. UNIT was the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, they first appeared officially in "The Invasion" and featured throughout many 3rd Doctor stories, then from time to time after that.
I'm torn about getting any more, given that their bullets make them fairly useless against most Aliens in the show, perhaps the Warlord Games British Parachute starter army could be good for UNIT?

Here we have 2 Mondassian Cybermen, this design was only used in "The Tenth planet", they hailed from Mondas, Earths twin planet that eventually drifted off into space.
I'm not sure why this picture is so blurry, I'm sorry about that.

Here is a Draconian(the one with a gun) from the story "Frontier in Space" They had a galactic empire that was a big rival of the human race.
It originally had a different paint job which I hated, then I saw a recent post here about a FFoL battle featuring one of them and I had to copy the colour scheme
The other is an Axos monster from "The claws of Axos", it is bullet proof and has tentacles that make people explode.

Here are the Ice Warriors, powerful soldiers from the planet Mars, they can be seen in: "The Ice Warriors", "the Seeds of Death", "The Curse of Peladon" and "The monster of Peladon", while they were originally enemies of humanity, they eventually ended their warlike ways and joined a Galactic Federation.
I do quite like these models, despite the fact that some of the poses are a little bizarre.

Here we have 2 Ogrons and a Slyther, The Slyther was a monster used by the Daleks in "The Dalek invasion of Earth", I don't know whether it comes from Skaro or was just something nasty they picked up along the way.
The Ogrons are a strong and stupid race of Aliens who worked for the Daleks on several occasions, they were featured in "Day of the Daleks" and "Frontier in space"

Here we have the Daleks, they appear throughout the Classic Seasons and modern ones too (did you really expect me to sit here and name every single Dalek story?)
These ones are painted like those in the 1st Dalek movie "Doctor Who and the Daleks" and also the Daleks seen in "Death to the Daleks"

You can see here that both designs of Dalek available are actualy very different

And here's the whole lot so far!

The set of 7 Movie Daleks was my first from BTD and it got here in about 3 weeks, I bought the rest in one go a while after, although it did take a lot longer to arrive, I did get a free Silurian out of it, I was also quite surprised by how good the models were.
One downside though was that the larger bases didn't actually fit the models, so gluing them in was quite an ordeal, my main task once I've finished my absolute shit-ton of Victrix Napoleonics that I bought on a whim is to get some of that Vallejo basing paste, then I might get another set or two, I think I'd like some of those Dalek troopers from "Resurrection of the Daleks" next, then maybe some Timelord guards too.

For anyone who wants to see a slightly outdated library of my full Dalek army, click here: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=125843.0

A nice start with a lot of minis!

Are you planning to base the miniatures to match the flooring (which I love, is that available anywhere?)?

As for UNIT troops, I'd wholeheartedly recommend the various "soldiers" from Crooked Dice (X-Commandos for the more modern ones, and the 70s style ones for Classic Who, of which I have a lot in my Doctor Who collection (and some more primed where I am unsure to paint them as UNIT reinforcement or as mercenaries for 70s Pulp games).

Thanks, the flooring is just an old camping table, I'm wanting to give them all a sandy style base to match the endless Quarries they filmed in.

I'll definitely have a look at the Crooked dice troops, thanks for the tip!

Great stuff! I used British Ultra Moderns from The Assault Group for my UNIT Troops, although CD weren't in existence when I bought them.
Waiter, my soup is giggling.
