25mm old school fantasy one stop shop?
« on: 21 September 2009, 01:54:17 AM »
I'm looking to build several armies for Fantasy Rules! in 25mm.  I want to go with a cool retro old school look, but I really hate shopping around at a million stores.

Does anyone know of a site/company that has a really massive line of old school looking 25mm minis (that do not look anything like Games Workshop minis!) for a variety of armies?

Paypal is a must.  I'd also like a USA distributor, but, if the price is right I'll pay for oversees shippment,

Thanks

Otherworld miniatures has a lot of "old school look" minis.

http://www.otherworld.me.uk/

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head, unless you search e-bay for some real old school minis.

Megaminis has a huge range of older fantasy, most of it true 25mm or at least smaller than most modern 28mm+ stuff.

MegaMinis EBay Store.

Specifically, their $1.50 Fantasy ranges and $19.99 Fantasy Packs

One of my entries to LPL3 was of MegaMinis figures:

They're from the "Town Guard" pack in the $19.99 Fantasy Packs. And they lost their LPL3 round to some very nice unique powered armour/mecha troops...

Black Orc have a pretty wide range of stuff, with a lot of it leaning towards old-school, and they sell some of their stuff in bulk packaging for a huge reduction.

Yep. They also have Grenadier's old Julie Guthrie's Personalities range. Like the name suggests, they're RPG-style characters, but from the vast range you can find multiples of any race/class.

Iron Wind is selling Ral Partha classics in the US. Plenty of unit deals for several fantasy races. Most of them were made in old, slim style, which is quite unlike GW.

For really old school, you can try Game Figures. They own the original Minifigs fantasy minifigs from the 70s. There's not much in the store at the moment, but you can try contacting Tom. Who knows, what consequences one "I want 100 of everything" mail might have? Sadly, their forum is currently porn-spammed.

Some retailers, such as Noble Knight, sell a huge selection of new and used stuff from the mentioned companies and more.

Mirliton/Grenadier floats my boat (have a look at the Half Men chariot), 'though I would say that most of their stuff is closer to 28mm.  A good source for retro looking greenskins which has sorely tempted self is The Goblin Factory; these fellas could've walked straight out of the eighties such is their style and scale!  Apparently they are expanding their range as well, so...

Don't http://www.amazonminiatures.com/ have a load of "old "school" figures? I'm sure they have fantasy ranges, or at least medieval figures etc that would fit.

Sad.

Hopefully all things eventually turn around.

In the mean time, off to other manufacturers.

Gracias,

Glenn

Huh, you and I are opposite in this regard. I've been madly building up my 25mm collection and I have as much fun shopping on Ebay and convention flea markets as I do either painting or playing! Really, every week sees fantastic, incredibly varied lots go up, and I snag bargain after bargain. Random lots are great. I also love exploring all the oop ranges via wikis and my old catalogs, setting saved searches and having the results sent to my email. Every day you see what my nets drag in and it's a thrill when something you've been waiting on comes up. And the resulting collection has infinite variety and endless character because so many sculptors have contributed to it. There are many, many things I love about 25mm, but shopping on Ebay might be my favorite part of all.
