M42 Duster
« on: October 14, 2021, 02:29:12 PM »
Finally finished the M42 Duster for Empress Miniatures

This is the prototype so still a few minor changes needed and I'm going to try and reduce the part count a bit.

What do you think? ???

Nice. I'm trying to work two 15mm versions
into one of my AK47 armies at the moment.

Good looking model

Something looks slight odd with the tracks - but from looking at photos I’m not quite sure what it is - it may be there is a touch more of a curve to the arrow heads on the side of the tracks? Or perhaps these tracks are a touch wider, so the arrowhead is more visible in the above shot?

Would be good to know what's wrong!
The tracks are pretty tiny, the detail is down to 0.3mm in places!

Looks the dog’s bollocks to me!

My only suggestions would be some 3 round ammo clips and the odd loose round to dress the turret.  No doubt they will come with the crew for these.

3 round clips?  The ones I've got are 4...

Plan is to make a load of empty cases and clips too.  Can easily slip in some full loose rounds too.

Looks good to me.  And from what I understand, M42s were quiet adept at deforsetation....

Watching the vids their rate of fire isn't amazing, but I guess the loader needs to keep up!  120 RPM per gun.
That said I guess they could still chew through their stored ammo in a few short minutes!

Four round clips it is, I stand corrected! Good to know there will be plenty of brass to paint up.

Makes me wonder if Paul is planning an equivalent for the PAVN.

Would that be a ZSU-57-2 or 23-4?
Well I have done both the PT76 and T-55 chassis... But you'd have to ask Paul what his plans are!

The detailed view of the tracks looks really good with all the detail seen on photos

The real thing

Looking at this photo the tracks don’t protrude beyond the hull sides. Whereas in the first couple of photos of the model they do seem to have the teeth of the tracks sticking out. This may be down to the angle of the photo.

Ah ok, they probably weren't snug against the hull and the camera angle made it look worse!

The top down photo shows they don’t protrude - the angled one still shows some - but it must be down to the angle - also this above and to the side angle while very common for model photos isn’t one you often see with real tanks
