Wargames Atlantic Contest: Name the Alien Bugs!
« on: July 26, 2022, 06:42:19 AM »
WGA has released some design images of their upcoming alien bugs set and are doing a contest for a name and species background.

I like the design but hope to see them further developed.

They remind me a lot of the old Defiance Games Bugs actually...  :?

Yeah, I can see that. WGA have 4 legs and are bigger but there are some similarities.

Yeah, I thought that too.

From the renders I like them and it'd be good to have more plastic bug options. I also like that they are going to include 3 life stages and my brains already ticking over the possibilities of hunting bugs and clearing out nests.

I also hope they do a bigger one, nothing too big but the size of a light tank would be cool.

I've suggested the name Chigs, as a blatant homage to one of military scifi's greatest tv-series: the sadly aborted Space: Above and Beyond...  :D

I am curious to see what kind of backstory/background/fluff people come up with. I hope we'll get an insight into that eventually, can imagine it to be fun.

For anyone who might be curious, I put my submission in my recent blog post…

… is admittedly full of the usual sci-fi predator species tropes.

Nice (in a buggy way), but they could do with at least six legs.

Whilst I like (and will likely purchase), would have liked 3 pair of limbs, 2 ambulatory, 1 manipulatory (either claw or weapons).

Seem like "feline" body type, from a reptile/insect perspective

I like the in universe approach taken here. I wrote from an omniscient narrator's perspective and basically described them briefly and then some bits and bobs I could think of.

Yes indeed! My sci-fi thread is actually an homage;  Furballs Above And Beyond.

The writing about these creatures will no doubt full of cliches, I’m hoping for peaceful vegetarian intellectuals living on a planet covered in ferns and deciduous trees, they will be sitting under said trees discussing Inigo Jones, and landscaping  :)

I know this isn't the case, but for ages I was convinced wargames Atlantic was just defiance games reborn. everything seemed so similar right down to the box art. As I say, they aren't - Then again if they were, they have proven themselves capable of delivering.
