All quiet on the western front...2022
« on: 10 September 2022, 01:38:50 PM »

As far as I know, no one mentioned it yet… it’s always hard to tell from a trailer, but it look interesting to say the least.

Waiting with great anticipation; am quite a fan of the 1979 version.  Good to see more WW1 films being made.

Ooh!  :o
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Finally getting some historically based movies - will be watching for this.  Also looking forward to seeing the movie about the Dahomey amazon warriors.

No spoilers.
Saw it last night, have seen and am a big fan of the previous 2 versions.
Big budget, big up to date action scenes, but I struggled and speed watched sections due to the pace. Or maybe I have changed?
Not a fan of the accompaniment.
What were the tanks anyone?
Overall I still would recommend and glad that someone feels there is still enough interest in Ww1 to make this sort of investment.

I watched it last night. I have to say it was a disappointment. Worth watching once.

Agree, it was slow with not much action.
Also felt that it was not faithful to the book.

French St Chamond tanks, which were used during the likes of the Battle of Matz and the Second Battle of Soissons for example.

I saw the movie last Friday.
I liked it because it conveyed the message of mindless trench warfare very well. I know since my childhood the film from the 1930s. It was also shown in our school. The film from the 1970s has more the charm of a western, for me.
This one has a lasting effect on me, because it shows very well how deadening the war is.

I thought it was well acted, had really good production values, and overall worth a watch, but odd that they (in my opinion) gutted the story of key themes in favour of a lot more cliched take. Not a classic, unlike the novel or 1930 film.

I read the book in school, saw both 20th century movies and saw the new one this weekend. Very dissapointing movie. They wanted more than they were able to deliver. Far away from the brilliant book. The terrible truth in the Great War is lost and they expanded it with historic parts out of the story of the front soldiers. I think they want to do a movie of the Great War, but took the book as advertisement. Poor movie..

By comparison to the usual rubbish available it was brilliant.

Whilst I did perhaps prefer the second rendition of the movie the most, due to its similarity to the book, this did have a number of cracking scenes.

Never saw the 20s version, but liked the second one enough to read the book. I was expecting some differences, but why is it called All Quiet on the Western Front when so many liberties were taken with Remarque's book? It's about as faithful as The Scarlet Letter with Demi Moore! The addition of the politician spouting modern opinions was pointless and probably more of the script writers' or director's views than what was the majority view at the time. The poignant ending was changed to some visual orgy of violence. What's with the whataboutery? I know there are some people out there with certain views, but that scene was stupid.

I'm finding it funny that people who haven't read the book or have a superficial familiarity with it are claiming that it's so faithful to the source!  >:(
