Hey you in the mirror shades! - Small cyberpunk project
« on: October 10, 2022, 06:55:32 PM »
I picked some Human Interface minis off Ebay and thought I would have a go at putting together some teams for "Exploit Zero" and "Reality's Edge". They have mostly been painted with Army Painter speed paints.

HI mini on bike

HI Cyber-Sumo?

HI Cyberpunk

HI Ronin (metal). The undercoat came out a bit rough but looks OK in the flesh

Not HI minis (Zombicide minis) but they fit in with the theme.

hope you like them More to follow.

Excellent! The Speedpaints worked quite well on those figures. I have a similar project in mind, but I keep putting it off because I haven’t figured out which approach to use for painting (or which colour schemes to use). Your thread may get me motivated!

Yeah...that Ramones top does _not_ look speed painted.
If that's someone speed painting...I'm doing this hobby wrong...ha!

These all look fantastic, btw!

good lord, your paint-jobs with the speed=paints have come out brilliantly. Not sure how much is your skill, or the paints (which I'd pretty much dismissed from the reviews I'd seen tbh) ... ?

wouldn't have guessed they were painted thus ... even the 'huge' figures (photo-wise) look great ... hmmm.
Might need to look at the paints again.

although - looking again - it does look as tho' a fair amount of highlights etc have been added after the speed-paints?

Thank you for the comments

Above my skill level I'm afraid! The print is a home-made decal, using decal paper and a laser printer.

although - looking again - it does look as tho' a fair amount of highlights etc have been added after the speed-paints?

The minis were base coated with Seer Grey (GW) and I used speed paints on the main block colours. Once dry I picked out some highlights.
I found flesh/faces still needed work to get them looking right so didn't really save much time on those bits (like the Cyber Sumo)
The Ronin was Zenithal base-coated (grey and white) and speed painted. The jacket and trousers are unhighlighted, that is the speed paint picking up the tones from the base-coat. The head/face needed work and I added some highlights to the armour at the front and his cyberware. I think the rough surface on his jacket is from the zenithal priming (I didn't thin it down enough) but I'm pretty pleased for a first attempt.
The Cyberpunk's cyberware was pre highlighted (grey + white) and thinned speed paint applied. Some white highlights were added to make it pop.

Out of the bottle, speed-paints are excellent for block colours and do save time, but I found flesh and certain parts still needed traditional highlighting to make them pop.

I will be adding some security team shortly and some more characters.

Great work on these figures. It is a great range.

They have released some new sets and have 20% off the range.

The Vtol is a great piece with two troopers in the door ways.

I have the game and got quite a bit of the range in the last sale that they had.Still not painted though.

I agree speed paints do speed things up, but they are not the be-all end-all they are made out to be. Just a tool that still needs highlights and extra shading. You've done a marvelous job.

Thak you for the comments.
@Manic_Miner - I missed these. Some great additions there! Thanks for that.

A few more pics:

A black-site agent awaiting basing

Just for info, his jeans are speed-paint with no highlights. Seems to work better on somethings rather than others!

A "Razor" leaping into action

Some security droids

I'm having fun with these and have some more base-coated and ready to go....

Love the jeans on the Security Agent.

I have been watching Ebay for the first game that was released.

The terrain that they have in the pictures on the site really brings the miniatures to life.I think it might be from the Brutal Cities range.
