Played the Battle of Kerj Abu Dulaf (1073) at the club last night. Alp Arslan, the victor of Manzikert, is dead and his brothe Qavurt and his son Malik-Shah dispute the succession to the Sultanate. This was a battle between a typical Seljuk Turk army of mostly light horse archers and one that was more of a hybrid between Turks and Arabs.

Malik-Shah's army:

Amazing stuff. Those truly look like armies. And it's one of my all time favorite periods. Great AAR too. Always enjoy your offerings, thanks!

Interesting basing for a 6mm game. Typically the bases are packed with minis. This seems to give the units a distinct look

They look like great games.
Really do.
I've tried the Shattered Lances rules and really didn't get on with them. Everything about them screamed '1990s style rules', and not in a good way.
But your games really do look spot on.

Cheers. Shattered Lances are very difficult to get to grips with, they’re written in a concise ‘legalistic’ style reminiscent of WRG which isn’t very fashionable with wargames rules these days. I actually prefer that style to the more ‘conversational’ style when it comes to rules, so it was probably easier for me to persevere with them. They also don’t bother explaining WHY particular rules exist, you just have to discover that by playing in a lot of cases.

Though they have the appearance of WRG, there IS a lot there that is quite innovative. The way hits don’t accumulate in a linear fashion and how saving throws are keyed to response moves, for example. But it is a fair bit of work to become au fait with the rules.
