Do you base your Victrix figures?
« on: 20 April 2023, 12:24:41 PM »
I've started up a small Robin Hood project.

After doing some research I picked up the Conquest Games Robin Hood figures and the Victrix Norman skirmish pack.

However, either the Conquest Games are true 28mm and the Victrix figures are 'heroic' 28mm, but the Conquest Games figures look small against the Victrix figures.

Putting the Conquest Games figures on 25mm slotta bases somewhat mitigates the height difference. However, I normally like to put all my figures on a base and it feels wrong not to do that with the Victrix figures, but then the height problem reappears.

So, my question is, do any of you use the Victrix figures unbased?

I base mine yeah, on flat Renedra or mdf bases. If you want to offset the height difference a bit, cut the puddle base of your Victrix figures and stick them on low profile bases (Renedra is like 1.5-2mm thick) and stick the others of Slotta-style bases.

Maybe the Normans are just big bullies picking on the underfed Saxons

Victrix are true 32mm minis (to the top of the head)

I don't, currently, have any, but there are a few people who have them. They've, largely, been using the Reaper bases flipped upside down so they slot inside it with their integral bases.

I don't particularly worry about height differences between figures because people also vary. But then again, I'm one of those people who mix manufacturers all the time. In real life, people vary quite a bit in size and it only makes sense that the warlord's soldiers are much better fed than the peasants who are rebelling, which gives a good reason for them generally being smaller in stature.

Thanks for the various comments.

I saw the Conquest Games Robin Hood figures in the flesh (lead?) at Salute and I noticed that they had used lipped bases to give them some additional height.

As a result I've stuck mine on some Renedra disc bases for some additonal lift. If it bothers me too much, I can always resort to the old Rogue Miniatures line.

I base mine on washers, which are rather thin.
