Eureka French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802) Size?
« on: June 21, 2023, 02:42:25 AM »
Has anyone here painted any of the Eureka French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802) line? They say 28mm. I'm just wondering how they measure up. Are they average 28mm size or are they on the smaller side (more like an old true 25mm). Thanks!

Hi, I haven't actually got any for reasons that will be apparent, so what I am saying is from memory. I have a French Revolutionary force of Trent ( now Skytrex) figures. These are real 28s, and quite large, robust chaps. I wanted some extra troop types and saw that Colonel Bills was selling some Eureka 2nd hand. I saw them at a show last year and decided that although they were 28mm in height they were much thinner than the Trent ones and wouldn't look right together. Don't know if this helps?

The Eureka figures are lovely, more in keeping with Perry Miniatures or Foundry than Trent. But, in separate units on the table you will not notice I think. I have eleven different manufacturers in my FRW collection with no issues regarding size or heft as figures are not in mixed units, though I'm sure some gamers might differ. Have a look on my blog using the FRW tag in the side bar there are lots of pictures to help you judge yourself ~

Caveat. The British and Piedmontese are noticeably larger and better fed than their French, Austrian, Russian and Tyrolese brethren. Chunkier sculpts.  That said, in separate units I doubt it would prove problematic.

The earlier ones should mix well with Perry and the Paul Hicks sculpted Brigade Games ranges.

I have some revolutionary cavalry and some officer figures I can do a side by side with foundry (noticeably bigger) Emperors toad and Perry. I do not have any Trent miniatures

Cheers

Turns out I have all of the above from a currently mothballed Vendee project.

Emperor Toad is a bit skinny, but they ought to all work together once painted up. Especially in separate units.

Thank You All. I am interested in the French and Austrians c. 1796/97. I have Eureka's Montrose Scots, and was wondering since they were decidedly on the smaller side if the Rev Era French were the same size wise.

By the way, although they look pretty weedy I can say that the Emperor's Toad figures are actually very nice. Quite fine detail. The only possible long-term issue is the strength of the cast metal polearms.

Just seen an e-mail that Skytrex/Warlord have acquired the Emperor Toad's French Revolution ranges. I suspected this would happen some time ago but now confirmed, and the prices have now risen accordingly.....

Agreed. Very nice figures indeed if a tad slim. I bought a Vendee Rebel force for Sharp Practice last September. I paid £103 with a 20% discount so say £125 full price ( including P&P). Looking at the Skytrex website I reckon the same force today would cost at least £214 plus P&P . I reckon the previous owner underpriced them, but even at those prices wasn't breaking into the market, and the 20% sale was a final attempt to drum up sales. He told me he was doing a deal with a "larger company in the Nottingham" company who would cast for him and I wondered if the result would be what we now see.

I'm not buying from UK any longer because postage is just far too high. So that leaves me two choices - Eureka USA or Brigade Games.

Fully agree the most complete range too

I presume all these will now go to Skytrex/,Warlord. I don't know if the former owner will keep researching and sculpting as he intended when I last communicated with him.last September.
