Playing with UV resin.
« on: 30 September 2023, 02:16:18 PM »
I got a deal on the Amazon for 300 mils of UV resin and decided to see what I could do with it.

The first thing was to try a clear skull coming out of a pool or gateway.  I used Oyumaru to make a press mold of a GW giant skull, cast it in clear resin.  I textured a ring of foamex as stone and made a backing of crumpled up foil on mount-board.

Once I assembled it I set the skull in the center and then filled around with more resin.  This was tinted with a GW ink.

Did another with tinted resin on a white background.

I also tried some clear Shrinky Dink to make a dark menacing shadow.
Here it is in the original size.

Here it is after baking.

This was mounted on clear plastic and set in a doorway.  I used inks to add tinting to the plastic, set in resin front and back then textured with Modge Podge.

Hope that gives everyone some ideas of things to try.

Great experiments with good results! I especially love the silhouette in the gateway! 8)

And Shrinky Dink (or Krimpy Dinky as it is know over here) is a bit of a blast from the past; it was mostly a novelty thing to do at children's parties; cool you found a hobby purpose for the stuff :)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Thanks both for the nice words.

I was reading a blog where the user made all of the counters for his game using it.  I decided to pick some up for that purpose and to play with.  The first token came out clear so I tried setting it in resin to see what was what and it came out well so working up to the gateway was a next step.

That silhouette trick is lovely. Be aware that recast of intellectual property (GW giant skull)  is not cavalry on LAF.
