Colonial Marines OOB in Aliens question
« on: October 11, 2023, 11:01:05 PM »
Can anyone point me to a reliable source for the organisation and armament of the colonial marines in the Aliens film? Who was armed with what and which brick were they in? I have various conflicting sources. Thank you.

There is an "official" Colonial Marines Technical Manual - Amazon UK link

It claims to have what you want, and, if I can find the copy in my bookcase, I'll be able to confirm/deny that

Thank you. That gives the standard organisation, but is there anything specific for the film Aliens?

This and organisation above platoon level is actually based on the movie. Do you ask for the names of the characters?

I have all the names I think. Different sources have different people in different teams and armed with different weapons, some with the rifle and some with the flamethrower. The only consistent thing is the 2 armed with the heavy weapons.

No names from the movie in the book. It is simply indormarion about organisation, armament, ammo, vehicles, spacecraft and tactics.

One of my favourite bits of Aliens trivia is that each character's initial on the life monitoring thing is the actual initial of the actor's real first name (apart from Hicks, I think) ;D

I was hoping not to have to try and watch the film over and over to get the information, lol.

Also, remember that this is merely the standard OOB.

The Section in the film Aliens consists of veterans in the field, and operational units tend to deviate from the OOB the longer they're out there.

The fact thet they're just one section as opposed to two is already telling. There's no way to discern whether or not the second section is still in hybernation, but that would be a weird decision, that could only be explained logistically (low supplies/air maybe? Or more economical perhaps; "no wake up, no pay"?). At any rate; I can't recall any mention of the second section in the entire film.

But the fact remains that they're not just parade ground troops; they have loads of individual touches, such as non-regulation pieces of equipment and clothing, painted on slogans and symbols, etc. So additional equipment such as flamers or shotguns would be entirely possible (in the field)...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Imdb is a good source for cast - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/

I was going to say that the actors have aged, but it was 37 years ago :o
