Hail Caesar Epic (12mm)
« on: 20 April 2024, 02:40:09 PM »
Hi Folks, or rather, salve!

Just saw this and after a first desinterest, I might biy the set when it comes out.
The sprues look excellent and the idea to have a nice boxed set with everything included really appeals to me.

I assume these are like the other Warlord Epic offerings and nothing like 12mm scale?

The design of the legionaries is interesting - to assume that they are so closely ranked that you only see the front of the front rank, the heads of the middle rank, and the rear of the back rank. Hard to tell from the video how well this works in practice.

That's about the long and short of it from what I saw at salute - three ranks deep, middle rank is just heads and the left/right side of the outer soldiers, then the front is just fronts and the back is just backs.
They looked the part to me from inside their display case.

I´m intrigued, but not sure it's enough to buy into the game or not yet.

Intriguing. Depends a lot on the scale for me. If it roughly fits with other 15mm ranges I’m in.

The epic blackpowder figures are on the small size and very realistically proportioned next to most metal 15mm figures I hear, so this may well be the same.

Big question I have is decals for the shields.

Both from Warlord and other manufacturers.

They are interesting but the shields seem over large.

I already have Punic Wars in 54mm so won't be buying in anyway...

I'm really excited to paint those Celtic front ranker shields.  And the Romans' feather plumes.  Those elephants look so cute.

If they manage to expand into the Alexandrian period then I will get Porus' army just so I can field a couple of dozen elephants. It should be manageable in this scale  :D

I am hoping that they release a Punic Wars suppliment book.

Not interested in the figures, I don't rate the 'epic' scale ranges and I do have large collects of all the major combatants in the Wars.
