Dang, Hasbro has been making content faster than I can paint it up!

I have some progress on the Against the Ogre Hordes box on my blog.  If you want to see all of it, that is the best place to go.

https://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2024/08/on-painting-desk-against-ogres-heroquest.html

Here is a taste.....

I picked up a Speed Paints Metallic set, and have been playing around with those as well.  However, I still have about half the set to paint!  So, more to come on that front soon!

I finished off Against the Ogre Horde boxed set.  I was pretty happy with all the new miniatures in the game.  The character Ogres are amazing and fun to paint.

Lot's of details at my blog, but here are some photos too.

https://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2024/09/on-painting-desk-finishing-off-against.html

So, here are the Greenskin missile troops.  I love that the Goblins have boomerangs.

and then some actual Ogres.  I wanted to make sure that they had a unique "look" to them.  Therefore I used a Sand Golem color for their skin-tone and a Absolution Green for their hair.  That made them look unique from the Orcs, Goblins, and other Undead troopers.

These two are a couple of character models.  An Ogre champion and an Ogre General.  They play a pretty big role in the Quests. The unpainted guy is a Reaper Weasel-mancer for scale.  These guys are huge.

Thanks Frugalmax!

For those following along at home, I added some thoughts on the blog about the Kellar's Keep expansion.

I have photos of the contents and some thoughts on the Quests as well.  I will get to painting them all up soon!  More to come there.....

I finished painting up the Kellar's Keep supplement for Heroquest.

Kellar's Keep is focused on saving the King and his army from being besieged by Zargon's forces.  The besiegers are tribes of Orcs and Goblins along with the occasional henchmen and the forces of Dread.  Therefore, the miniatures in this pack are basically re-treads of some of the sculpts from the Core box.  You get 8 more orcs, 6 more goblins, 3 more Abominations, a wooden door and an iron door.  Not that much to paint really.

Can you see what is newly painted and what was from the Core set?

You can read all about it on the blog here:

Nice painting on the above and I appreciate the review of the Quest Packs!

We just started playing some Heroquest, but I'm not sure if we'll get any of the expansions (I'm sure they're great, just not sure if we'd ever get around to playing them). After just finishing a somewhat long Warhammer Quest dungeon, I like the simplicity and how quickly the turns move in Heroquest, though I'd rather there was a version similar to WHQ where one player wouldn't have to be the GM/antagonist. If I lived in the UK I'd like to pick up Stalagbite (https://www.midlamminiatures.co.uk/stalagbite-board-game.html) for cooperative dungeon (cave) delving with the kiddos, but shipping it to the US costs almost as much as the game again. Maybe they'll get it here someday!

Thanks for sharing!

Cool. I really wish that Hasbro had gone for cyclopes rather than abominations. They would then at least have been similar to the fimir (which were my favourite minis from the original game)

Yeah, Abominations don't seem to fit with the Greenskin Theme as they could have.  They feel more Shadow over Innsmouth than Kellar's Keep.

I went and painted up all the Return of the Witchlord expansion for Heroquest.  Lot's of undead baddies in this one.

More on the blog....

I think this took me over 100 HQ models painted this year!

Loving this thread1 I picked up the new HQ and 1 or 2 (or maybe more, don't tell the wife) expansion packs. Waiting for the urge to strike to get them painted!
Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Very cool to see those quest pack reviews! Thanks for that. Your figures look really nice, and once more it goes to show that painted figures always look better on the board and it just gives a different experience.

Hasbro are relentless in throwing out supplements for the new Heroquest. Which I think is a good thing, but I also follow some Heroquest FB groups and some of the stuff going on there is just concerning in terms of "buying is the hobby". But okay, who am I to critizise people about how they spend money.

I better go and read your blogpost about Against the Ogre Hordes now. Keep it up!

Well, unlike most of those people I use these in a lot of games besides just HQ.  I use them in a number of generic Fantasy games and role-playing games.

For those following along at home, I got a copy of Mage in the Mirror so, this thread will continue to live on into 2025 as I start painting that.

It has a whole new set of Elven furniture, some Elf minis, and even some more Ogres! More to come on that soon!
