The HeroQuest Hero Quest
« on: October 05, 2016, 01:04:32 PM »

While working on some lovely Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower miniatures recently, I got an urge to paint a model from another classic dungeoncrawl, HeroQuest.

I got chatting with my buddies and we decided to turn our combined enthusiasm for HeroQuest figures into a group project, with each of us painting a model from the core HeroQuest set.  One thing led to another and other hobbyists that we know got involved, so we decided to structure it a tiny bit and aim to get a complete HeroQuest set painted over time, just for fun.

The guidelines are:
  • The model has to be from the HeroQuest base game.
  • The model can be based in any way that the owner wishes.
  • Conversions of the models are discouraged, but seeing as HeroQuest is over a quarter of a century old now, some leniency is allowed here to get damaged models repaired etc.
  • Models can be painted any way that the owner wants, but the figure should still fit into the theme and atmosphere of the original game.  A reboot/reimagining of the model isnt really what this is about.  This is more about revisiting models that may have been painted somewhat naively in the past, purely for the joy of it.

There are discussions about the models/palettes/technical deficiencies/wild nostalgia associated with the models in the links in the titles below, if any of you would like to check them out.  The title in parentheses is the painter of that model.

Thats as far as we have got at the time of writing.  As mentioned above, click on the title to be taken to the relevant blog post for more photos and further info.

More to come soon.  Thanks for looking :)

Bang on, this is a great project!  8)

Cues memories of when I was sixteen, and had borrowed my cousin's copy of the game on the proviso that I paint all the minis for him. Did it too, although I had had it for a year and did all the painting in the last two weeks before he came to visit again...

Think that's what might have given me a lifelong aversion to block painting!  lol

That elf is fantastic Axiom.

That palette is perfectly in keeping with the subject, but certainly not typical.

Wonderful.

Very cool, not only is it fun to see those monopose monstrosities revealing their inner charm but we also get to see the varaitions on a theme (in this case a second fimir). I like this. A lot.

I like that skellie with the fresh-grave grass on his head.  That's a nice little touch.
