Food for my 18th Century folks...
« on: 03 July 2024, 04:56:10 AM »
So, I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the 18th Century, and between my Western stuff, I am now working on an 18th Century "Pirate Town", (Complete with characters, backstories, and all)....
One of the things I wanted to have was some "grocery items" for markets and sellers.
My wonderful wife (Gawd bless her!), got me a pack of the "Grocery Items" from Tabletop World, and I have slowly been working on these.
They are actually pretty fun to paint, well done, and the company has awesome buildings and customer service. I am currently also working on their recently retired "Coaching Inn".
I never thought in all my life I would be painting 28mm cheese...
Take a look and enjoy!
Comments are appreciated!

Those look great! I think that 3-D printing is going to be a boon to all of us who want these kind of details for the tabletop!

Nice stuff.  Like the underlying in tact cheese wheel though the above cheese must be a sharp cheddar given the color.  And that pile of sausage, well, um, in a different location, it, uh, could pass for something less savory!  :o  lol

Actually waiting some 3D printed items in 15 mm of a similar nature.

Oh, and the pigs head is great.

the above cheese must be a (...) given the color.

lol From a French point of view, there are many many possibilities...

Wrong board, I think.

Few people consider the 18th century part of the pike and shot era.

Your topic fits just fine on this board - you did start by stating you were building for a pirate setting and that is right up the alley of this place.  Perhaps FK thought it belonged in the Workbench thread where similar threads have appeared.  And it is specifically mentioned - pirates - as what belongs on this board in the original intro to this board.

I have been under the impression this is also where we post things for French & Indian War, which IS the 18th century. I could be wrong, and am more than happy to be redirected by the moderators.  ;)

At first I was thinking "that's cute" and then it hit me -- Someone painted all that!  Incredible.

At any rate, yep, I also see the Pike and Shot era as pre-1700's - but if I remember my history, I believe people also ate food for hundreds of years before that, so the pictures (and the work you put into them) are still appreciated.

Major edit:

When in doubt, one might find some benefit in reading the rules and guidelines - such as what goes in Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts:

---

"So if you're talking early - mid-1700's action of a broadly swashbuckling nature (pirates, smugglers, highwaymen and so on), this is definitely the place. If you're talking big setpiece battles of the Seven Years War or The War of Spanish Succession, then you should probably be posting in The Age of Big Battalions.

"The French and Indian War (and indeed the Wars of Clive in India against the French) were sideshows to the main continental Seven Years War in Europe. However, many people (mainly thanks to 'The Last of The Mohicans') see the F&IW as essentially a swashbuckling-style affair, so please continue posting F&IW stuff to this board.

"There is currently a vogue for hybrid pirate / fantasy game systems - Freebooters Fate, Cutlass, etc.  On one hand, you could say that as these are loosely pirate themed games, these belong in Pikes, Muskets and Flouncy Shirts."

---

So it turns out everybody was right, but some bodies were more right than others.

Few people consider the 18th century part of the pike and shot era.

unless you are gaming some of the "long seventeenth century" conflicts.

The Swedes were still using pike & shot during the Great Northern War.

Hollywood pirates often wear flouncy shirts, muskets are still in use, boarding pikes are possible but perhaps less common.

But then again, maybe the forum needs a cheese board?
