Cutting mats

Random question - are cutting mats recyclable? I’m tidying my work space and think it’s time to bin my old one.

The middle is usually cardboard - so I guess if you cut it open down an edge you pull the cardboard out to recycle that - as for the plastic cover, probably not.

As an ex recycling bod I’d say probably not - if you can, as Fred says, separate the components (didn’t know it was cardboard) then potentially but, again as Fred has already stated, any parts that are composite/laminates of varied materials won’t be doable within our current recycling capabilities/schemes (presuming your in the U.K.).

I was just pondering getting a new cutting mat and thought this thread would be looking for recommendations.

Regarding recycling the thing I'm going to cut mine up and chamfer the edges to make small bases for scatter terrain.

It may also be useful for other crafting projects.

I appreciate it will be fairly difficult to cut up given its original use.

I have done so successfully with a razor saw, but I would suggest an old blade!
