Meatball Western Trilogy Finale - The Sound of Sixguns
« on: November 26, 2024, 08:48:52 AM »
Yesterday evening we played our third and final game in the Meatball Western Trilogy, using the Fistful of Lead Reloaded 2nd edition rule set. This game was called The Sound of Sixguns. In this campaign, there were four players taking part with a faction each. They were: the Bandidos, Bounty Hunters, Lawmen and Natives. The following Special Rules or House Rules applied:

Time: The game was run over strictly 6 Turns, in the event of a draw, there'd be a 7th Sudden Death, where the winner would be ANYONE getting the first confirmed kill!

Winning Conditions: The faction with most kills at the end of Turn 6 would be the winner.

Mounted and Wounds: Roll a 5+ Test, on a success you stay in the saddle. Fail and you fall off and sustain another Wound.

The Gatling Gun: Three markers were scattered over the board, each containing supplies the army left behind. Only the number 3 marker mattered though, as that contained the Gatling Gun. A model had to succeed at a 5+ Test to set it up first before it could be fired.

SPRING 1882, MINNESOTA, THE TOWN OF GUTENBERG

The army had bivouacked in town to act as a deterrent, but had been called away to some other incident in the country, leaving some supplies behind.  With the army out of the way, the gloves were off! The citizens were heading for the hills, the town would become a killing field in a few hours! Anyone not wanting to be involved had better get out.

One of the Bandidos had blended in with the populance and now that the coast was clear, he slithered his way up onto the roof of the livery, rummaging through the crates there. He calls out to the leader “Jefe! I found IT!” there's a glee on the Bandido leader's face as he thinks about what he can do with that instrument of Death!

The Natives are advancing quickly and quietly, Proud Cougar is feeling his heart thunder in his chest, a mist of Red battle Fury fills him and he draws first blood as he skewer a Bounty Hunter on his lance! Another brave bashes a Bounty Hunter's head with his tomahawk.

The Constabulary advances on foot, utilising elevated positions and cover, slow and steady. Taking their time to “get it right”.

The Bounty Hunters, who've performed badly in the first two games, have definitely come to settle the score and are hungry for revenge! In the initial engagement they take one of the Natives out, scoring the first casualty of the day! And that sets the tone for the rest of the game.,,

The Natives, in their usual fashion, are opening up savagely, they soon score two casualties amongst the Bounty Hunters, but something happens. Pastor Sjogren calls upon the Lord for assistance and moves like a schythe amongst the Natives. He kills not only one or two, but three Natives personally, amongst them Chief Vindaloo! Earning him the MVP award for the game! What a comeback! The Natives are crumbling against the onslaught and are left with a straggling few, retreating in panic!

Meanwhile, the Bandidos succeed in setting up the Gatling Gun and with mixed results they open up fire on the Constabulary. They eliminate one of the Lawpersons, and some hilarity ensues. The Lawmen shoot at the Bandido leader, who not only once but TWICE tell Enrique to catch the bullet for him. The Bandido leader's guitar is also shot to pieces before the Constabulary manages to finally, finally cut him down! The Constabulary, in True Grit Heroic fashion, have three of their number advancing upon the Bandido position across the open street!

When the gunsmoke clears, it's evident that it's a joint win for the forces of Law & Order:

Bounty Hunters: 4
Constabulary: 4
Bandidos: 2
Natives: 2

Due to time, we didn't have time for the planned Sudden Death, but everyone had fun playing the games and were happy with the results. I really enjoyed running it and that's the things that matters the most.
The most important thing in the hobby is that you're having FUN! Doesn't matter if you win or lose.

Thanks sir!

It was a great epic end to the little campaign I ran at the club. The biggest win was that the players were having fun because that's the purpose of any game. The Bounty Hunters suffered greatly in the earlier games and I felt sorry for the gentleman's appalling dice rolling, but the redemption in the finale was worth waiting for  lol.

Now, that sounds like a fun game.  And, as far as the Bounty Hunters go (and the Indians, for that matter), never assume a win or loss until the final bell rings.  The fortunes of war(games0 can swing in an instant.  Especially if you have the Lord on your side (as the good Pastor Sjorgren seemed to have...).

Well done, lad!  :D

Thank you very much CapnJim! It was indeed a very fun game and I very much enjoyed running the Trilogy. I think I'm enjoying the process of organising and executing (pardon the word choice  lol) a participation game more than playing a game myself. It's all about providing fun and enjoyment for those who want to play my madcap stuff  lol.

The funniest thing in the game was that the Bandido leader had the Traits Bodyguard AND Pet (Guitar), so he commanded the SAME man to take the bullet for him TWICE  lol and proved to a very conniving tricksy target when even the guitar was sacrificed. But finally he had nothing else to chuck in the way, and I believe the Marshal shot him with an Out of Action result, truly Epic stuff.

Tonight, we are actually playing my second game of Sunset Watch, also FfoL rules, but in a Weird West setting. If I remember I will take pictures and put up an AAR in the next few days.

Thank you Sir!

By the way, with your title - The Sound of Sixguns - the first thing that went through my mind was:  The hills are alive, with the sound of sixguns...  :D
