The title says it all really, here's a bunch of pictures of my Up the Nile! project thus far in one place. any other sudan brushwork, terrain etc will be posted to this thread.

The first unit for m y Sudan collection was completed way back in 2015. One of the few gaps in the Perry Miniatures Sudan range was that of the Mounted Infantry Company under L/Captain Humphreys. Thus a small degree of conversion work was called for. The Mounted Infantry models are taken from the Command and Troop packs of the Perry Miniatures British Camel Corp with their "undersides" filed out (enter the "bastard" file!) with putty work done on redefining the puttees. The horses are taken from the 10th hussars packs.

All the imaged below are "clickable" (right click then "open image in new tab") for anyone interested in taking a closer look.

Mounted Infantry Company:

The next lots are two two units of Beja. Unlike the Mounted Infantry Company I needed to work out a way in which to paint a heck of a lot faster then I might normally do. This was achieved by the judicious use of washes on the clothing but not as one might expect on the flesh. Two of the Wargames Foundry Triads were to suffice for that job. I think it took me three or four sittings to do each unit. That is very quick by my standards!

Beja Unit 2:

Rules wise, I've long since settles on  Kevin Calder's Up the Nile rules:

Lovely work.  I believe I recognize those mounted infantry from a photo in one of the rulebooks on my bookshelf!

Great work - I really like the colour palate you have used.

One little suggestion - it might be time for a new photo background - this one seems to have some marks that detract from the ace painting on the figures.

Thanks Fred.

Thing is, the backgrounds are printed and mark very easily. I have a new one to put together consisting of several sheets of A4 that have to be cut correctly then carefully taped at the back to get them right! I'll get to it ASAP.

Sorry, wasn’t trying to make more work!

Might be worth a look at what other options are available as backgrounds - as I’m pretty sure you can now get ones printed on cloth (like gaming mats) so they are probably more durable.

I got a huge (5’+) pale brown photo background which I was thinking of using as a desert mat - it was a bit too stiff a material for that, but it was very cheap (under £10). Now I think of this, perhaps I should cut this up and use if for a photo background myself!

I prefer blue graded backgrounds for my photography. It's just the way I've always done it; something I'm very familiar with and used to. Maybe I'll try to buy a pro blue background at some point.

Oh, BTW, I do use different types- example below (apologies for it not being related to the Sudan):

That would be it!  I suspect those Afghans you posted make an appearance in that book as well.
