Barons War Retinue
« on: February 21, 2025, 10:00:37 PM »
Hello there!

Haven't painted any miniatures for a few years, so this year I thought that I should finally start doing something with my collection of little shiny lead people.

I've bought some Baron's War miniatures like two years ago, all this time they've stayed on a shelf - assembled, primed and with a noticeable coat of dust.

These all changed this month, as I've finally took my brushes again after a long hiatus. Please, welcome the retinue of Peter des Roches, Bishop of Winchester.

I still have several models to paint, so there'll probably be some updates on this thread. Maybe even a battle report or two, since a friend of mine, who sat on a painted collection for this whole time (we've ordered all the models together back then), is more than excited with the fact I'm finally on a painting train again!

Cheers!

Yes, very nicely done! And, not to be a bad influence or anything, but 2 years isn’t very long to have assembled figures sitting on a shelf waiting for paint. In my collection, those are still “young” figures, barely out of the box. When it’s 5-6 years waiting for paint, then I start wondering what I was thinking..,

Outstanding, those really look the part!

Rookie numbers. If you've not got hoarded untouched minis in the double figures age range then you're clearly not trying hard enough...
Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever

Iain, I’m always glad to hear someone has unpainted figures waiting even longer than mine, it makes my own lead pile seem a little smaller!  ;)

Yeah, I think I have a "couple" of models this old too!

They are 3D-prints made by VESNA Sculpts, which I'm part of, so I have plenty of test-prints to use at home!

Excellent painting and a nice little set-up you have there.

I know you mentioned that they are all Baron's War miniatures - I am especially interested in the archer types, as they would make great Lord of the Rings rangers. Thanks for showing them.

Yeah, they are from the "Outlaws 2" pack. They have a couple more with a similar aesthetics.

Also the Warhost (a fantasy supplement for Baron's War by Hobday and Hicks duo) worth a look for some low-fantasy looking models too - I believe they fit very well with the classic GW LotR range made by Perry's.

Nothing wrong with a hiatus - I've taken a few myself, but I did miss them. Lovely brushwork here. The freehand is something I always admire in any capacity. Also glad to hear that you've a mate for the project! Something that should never be taken for granted.
Awesome stuff!

Not wanting to venture into The Four Yorkshire men territory but I still have some original RTB-01 (bought from Dalling Road, Hammersmith)awaiting painting...
